When I am riding I would like extra light to help see what is in front of me. I would like to mount extra driving lights like I have seen on some other M/C's, any advice onto where to mount them and what type of lights would be best?

I thought of the lower section in between the wheels but wasn't sure how to or what the best way to mount them would be.

Haven't attached anything to the front yet so can't help there, but if you haven't already, see threads on Stebel horn for good DIY info on wiring.

Jonathon has a low cost installation he says works well. Bought lights at Walmart for around $20. Mounted just below front turn signals on his 250. turned ot slightly to light up side of road.

Some killboy pics from our May get together.

Maybe he'll see this and give some more details. I have been considering doing his mod.

Or forget about adding lights and just change out the stock bulbs with some PIAA H1 Xtreme White Plus. They don't get overdriven even at 70mph and they also add extra light to the side lanes of traffic. I've been using them since April 2009 and they're going strong...over 17,000 miles on the bulbs.

Sorry for the late reply but for the best pricing I've gotten them off amazon.

On another note...anyone recently mount/add driving lights...any input on good/bad brands, things to look for??

And does anyone know how the lights pictured above of the sky blue mp3 have those lights mounted/attached??

better choose for Xenon /HID

or do this mod

4 lights in a 400 unit or Duo high and low beam (solved)

i've done 5 units now its a afternoon work and then you've got dual
H4 high 60watt and lowbeam 55wat iff that isn't enough you could change them to bi Xenon

I saw the other thread but the HID is too expensive and the reflector change out too or dual hi/lo beam at same time too technical for me. As a inbetween option I was looking at LED driving lights though the specific pair I'm going to go with is still undecided but will be partially dependent on mounting location/options. I found some Hella lights I liked but the amp drain would be too much to use on a consistent manner.

one H1 for the mp3 Xenon H.I.D. is $ 66.95 at www.vvme.com and don't recomment to convert the highbeam with out doing the dual light mod because when you switch with H1 HID lights they take a few seconds to start burning so you will drive in the dark 2 or 3 secs

and they are on other i-net sites cheaper

and it looks technical changing reflectors but its just drilling 1 hole on each side and screw the new one in notting more reconnecting the cables and your good to go

the other glass isn't clueed it clicks in the unit the stock reflectors are attached by a clicking system easy to pull out

My stock bulbs have already been changed out with PIAA H1 Xtreme White bulbs. The price you state for that site is low compared to other HID kits so I wonter about quality. Secondly, doing HID is too technical for me. I don't know electronics that well or anything about ballasts which is a secod reason I'm not considering HID.

the quality is good bought them this summer and tested them well they got extremely wet and switch them on and off because i did bunch of short trips less 10 miles

the only thing what did happen last November was blowing a Fuse when i got my heatedgrip + navi on charging my phone and high and low on and tried to restart te bike after i shut it down but it did that also before with the stock lights Razz emoticon

4 H8 with slimballast the Ballast is nothing more then a convertor and fitting HID is the same as changing a lightbulb the HID bulb is connected to the ballast and the ballast you connect with a plug to the plug that connected the stock H1

here is a pic

extreme white on the rightside left in the pic and HID on the left side (right in the Pic)

This is something I would love to do also! Not necessarily for better night illumination, but for better visibility to cagers during the day! Like you smrf, I have been looking at adding some white led's on the front, but haven't found a suitable mounting place.
If maksor would invent a pre made dual headlight plug and play option with his idea, I would be first in line to buy one! I have read his instructions several times, but for some reason, I just don't get what I need to do!

a h1 to H4 plug i can't make i can make a cableharnes that will fit to the plug outsite the unit but then you still need to open the lightunit and replace the reflectors and cables, because a H4 bulb wont fit in a H1 socket

i can make a complete light unit but that one will cost 300,- euro's and that only for parts with out shipping

a new light unit cost 150 euro
a set of H4 nighthawks are 129.- euro now
then i need some cable and plugs

??? I just ordered the HID kit mentioned in the other thread for $40. It has two bulbs & ballast even tho you only need one if you have a 250 or 400. Get someone to go in with you on a kit and your cost is $20 - what a lot of bozos are charging for those "blue" halogens (colored glass bulbs). Matter of fact - since you're stuck with one bulb for low beam - I'd get the 55w version so you have the equivalent lighting of a 500 with 2 bulbs. Sounds like a cheap no-brainer to me...

Correction on the vvme.com site

it sells 2 bulbs 2 ballast and a "short" 50cm cable harness for $ 66.95( the stock cable harness is long enough for the mp3 no need to buy the extended one )

a set with a slim ballast is $ 86.95
the slim ballast you can fit in the light unit laying on the bottum

but when some one wants to convert one or both lights do the Dualheadlight mod otherwise you will drive 3 secs in the dark when switching from low to highbeam and back

a set for the fuoco mp3 500 is the same price

My bad - not that thread. The company to which I refer is DDM Tuning and upon further investigation they have a single bulb kit fr $25. The price of their kits just went up $5 Jan 1, 2011.
My recommendation s the H8 bulb, 55w and color = 5000K
Motorcycle/Scooter HID kit

5 minute job for those who know what they're doing. You willing/able to give complete instructions of how to do that on a 250? I see the pics but don't quite understand what you're 'connecting" or have removed from the handlebar housing.

Sent you a PM. What keeps the wire/paper clip in place? I may try this mod.

THOUGH I would still like to add some driving lights (as they're legal and more lighting is always better), preferably LED somewhere...any suggestions? Old As Dirt suggested I try using some bolts that are located under the front lower part of the grill...but I haven't investigated that option yet by taking them out to see how big they are and what else I could fit in that area of the grill.

the plug
you reconnect the plug so the piece of wire is between the plug and the switch

and if you want to add more external lights its easier to fit a HID set

fitting extra external lights is more work

adjust wiring and adding a floating fuse mount the light somewhere searching for the correct power supply

Maybe print off the photographs and description, and armed with this, take it to your service agent and get him/her to carry out the Mod for you. It really is a five minute job. With a big tin of biscuits (cookies) under your arm, or a round from the local coffee shop, job done!
