Hello everyone, first time on here as i have a problem with my new Vespa.

I have just bought a vespa ET4 and it was working until now! the lights on the dash don't work when ignition is turned on and the engine wont start.

I have charged the battery, checked all 4 fuses and they are ok. the model doesn't have a kill switch, has petrol in the tank and I am using the master key (red key) to start it. I can't think of anything else. I haven't ridden it yet,

Does anyone have any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks guys,

Abby

Aloha and welcome to the forum You just did everything i would of told you to check so i'm at a loss. Does it sound like it wants to turn over or do you get nothing when you turn it on and press the start button? From seeing where you live i hope torchwood hasn't done something to it Crying or Very sad emoticon Sorry it's not working and some one should chime in with a fix. Good luck and show us some pics of your ET4 when you get a minute

vespa not starting
I just had the same problem with my ET4 and it turned out to be the clip from the ignition had let loose and just needed to be reattached.

Thanks judy Ill try and post some pics when I get some time. With any luck a tardis should appear and the doctor can fix it with his sonic screw driver, and Ill be ready with my camera. But until then I'm afraid i'm a bit stuck.

thanks for the advice Joanne! i'm not too familiar with all this, where do i need to look to check the ignition attachments?

thanks again guys!

It would help pin it down to know what still does work (headlight, etc.). If the dash lights are out, I'm thinking it'd have to be further upstream than ignition. Are you sure you've checked all the fuses?

ET4 not working.
If you remove the cover from the front of the bike you can see the ignition. There is just a screw that attaches this cover, and it comes off easily. This is where I found the clip that had disconnected.

It's under the piaggio label on my LX and LT. Be careful not to scratch the bike when you slide something under the bottom part to pop it off. I think that's the screw your looking for

As Judy mentioned the screw is under the Piaggio emblem on the horn cover. There is a small slot to get a flat screwdriver into (indicated with the red arrow in the photo). Pry it up gently. I like to wrap the screw driver blade in masking tape to protect the paint. Once you have removed the emblem it's just a simple matter of removing the screw behind it.

You'll want to check two things. First check and make sure the electrical connector is plugges snuggly into the back of the ignition switch (red arrow in the photo). Next, check and make sure the metal clip that holds the electrical part of the ignition switch to the lock barrel is in place and holding the ignition switch together (yellow arrow in the photo).

cool thanks for all your help.

specially for the pictures they where very helpfull. I checked this and as far as I can tell it is ok.

I did push down on the kick start pedal by mistake befor it mysterisouly stoped working could that have done somthing to it. I am getting no charge at all. not even the small ammount it takes to toot the horn! I only got it the other day and am very upset. I have charged the battery with a cbattery charger and the charger tells me the battery is fully charged. could this charger be lieing to me and the batterys compleatly dead! I know it wasnt ridn for a good while before It was passed on to me

thanks everyone
