I have a 1959 Allstate, and I'm trying to find a source for a stock piston and cylinder. Most of the places I've checked don't go back that far, but maybe somebody could tell me if there is another model that uses the same parts? It's a 125cc bike.

I guess my real question would be if the motor from my allstate is the same as another motor (VNB, etc). If it is, it would be much easier it seems to order a new cylinder kit. Sorry for all the posts, I'm kinda lost on this one.

for some models, some parts are not available new. for some they have to buy 3 bikes just to get enough parts to have one running scooter.
have you called the major parts shops here in the US? |

It is a 125 cc, piston ported, deflector piston engine from 1958. It's the one where the carburetor is mounted directly onto the top of the cylinder. Somebody told me this cylinder is not particularly common, but they've been known to be wrong.

Breakthrough?
I do believe this is what I want!! What do you think? Aren't the VNA's and the VBA's the same motor?

Did you by your cylinder from SAT? I was out there a few days ago to get some new tires and tubes, and I was told he didn't know what kind of cylinder I would need. What do you mean it isn't the right cylinder from scooterworks?

If it piston ported it has a port for the muffler and another on the other side that looks just like it for the carb to slide onto it. SAT has one sitting in the parts room lower shelf just ask to go looking in there.it's only the cylinder then u can order the piston and rings from scooterworks

We are talking split headset largeframe Allstate, right? Not wideframe hanlebar Allstate.KThe piston ported VNA motor has an odd wristpin size too. Sortoff the bastard child of vespa. Replace the whole lump with just about any non electric start large frame engine and you'll be way ahead of the game. If you are a purist start scruonging the ends of america for doaner vna lumps to pick apart and be prepared for 35mph in the quarter mile.[/b]

Well, I wouldn't exactly call myself a purist. As of right now, I have about...2 dollars in this motor. It's a split headset allstate. I now have it partly apart on the bike, and am wondering if maybe I should just find a new motor. See, I want to ride this bike, and if I wanted a big project, I could have just worked on my Suzuki m12 (also in pieces). Though it would be really interesting to have a completely original parts bike, I feel like it would defeat the purpose of owning a Vespa (to ride it).
I am wondering to myself if I also may have chipped a tooth on the clutch. I notice running in neutral that it makes some very scary noises. No more starting this motor til I figure out what I'm going to do with it. Anybody in Michigan have a used motor in good shape they'd like to sell to a needy Newb? |
