My day just gets better and better.

Did anyone else know that there is apparently a tiny but important difference in the headset plastic between a 250 and 300? Hell maybe the top one isn't even from a 250 like I was told.

I do now after a week waiting for a part to be painted. I'm about to Ghost ride my bike into a brick wall and buy a Yamaha. And I'm not kidding one bit. i've had enough of F#$king with this bike, all because some A$$hole ran it over.

Take a good look at the pic below. Even though they are 99% F#$king identical there is that 1% Apparently some f#$king Piaggio engineer decided to make a whole new part.

Even though one looks wider in the pic they aren't. Spot the difference that put me over the edge. I'm going to get drunk tonight and forget about this project.

Maybe someone can chime in what bike the top part actually belongs to.
Both have a number inside that is the same 598361. When I bought it off ebay I looked inside mine and this number was the same.

There appears to be difference on the right side of the picture....where the bulge for a thumbswitch is different....smaller, rounder on one than the other.

We have a winner.

Can anyone tell me what this part goes to. Everything lines up except the left side lower mounting hole which is 1 inch off.

Is the top one a headset from a LX or what, someone help me because I'm about to lose it.

Is there any way to confirm that? The difference is so small. The one I bought was bright yellow and I didn't remember a yellow GT. only a yellow 2007 GTS.

We have an 05 GTS and an 06 GT200L and they both have the lower type as pictured. It's the thumbswitch for the horn.....

The upper one is clearly different and from the tone of your post the wrong one for your application.

My best guess is this is a LX part. I just need someone with a LX to confirm.

I just looked at an LX. It isn't a LX they have the master cylinder cover built it.

WTF part did I get stuck with ??? Is one year of the GTS different? I still can't believe this.

I pm'd Jess so hopefully he can chime in and tell me wth is going on.

While I dont have a GTS in front of me to look at, that headset definitely looks like the bottom of a GT headset (which I do have in front of me). That said the switches between a GT and GTS are different, so that's not really a definitive analysis.

I was thinking the same thing but gogogordy says his GT and GTS are like the bottom one which came off my 300?

Yup, I went all the way down to the garage and looked at both before I replied. I thought there would be a difference since the brake res. covers are different between the two but they're the same.

The difference is that early GT200's had round starter and horn buttons like an ET. When the GTS was released, they homologated them all and changed the GT to the lever style buttons, like the LX.
