There is no reason to wait. I got my 300 Super last year. The first thing I did was ride it on the highway as fast as I could go. Then it was full wot acceleration away from lights, it is too hard not riding hard like this, it is just too much fun. Anyhow, many of us here would suggest that you should ride it like you stole it. Many have done this, and our anecdotal evidence would suggest that it makes your scooter a faster one that is no less reliable.

Your going to get over whelmed with opinions. I rode mine at all different speeds and was careful not to do 40 all the time. Don't know if this really helped or not but the first oil change at the required time or maybe a little earlier is the best thing you can do for your scooter. Amazing how many little pieces of metal i found in it. BTW welcome to the forum and ride safe

Judy,

I was very UNexpectedly surprised during my First Service oil change: Although the oil was somewhat dark I did not find ANY metal flakes whatsoever, either in the old oil or the screen filter thing.

I broke in my Vespa similar to yours -- and as per the Owner Manual's breaking-in instructions (as I have ALL my vehicles all my life).

It's amazing, however, how many people have some sort of aversion to following the maker's break-in recommendations.

Its hard to imagine that anyone would find metal shavings in an engine with an oil filter on it. One has to wonder how it could be. If it happened to me, I would take the bike back for a refund. Modern day presurized engine oil should stay clean and debris free. If you find metal floating in the oil you more than likley would have a scored cylinder and or damage to the rings on a motor that only holds about a quart Crying or Very sad emoticon A larger vehicle with 4 or 5 quarts would be less prone to a major problem arrising from a few small flecks of metal...

There will always be those who think that they know more than the people who really do know more.

I was telling Warren Buffett about a hot stock just this last week... Laughing emoticon

I have found very tiny metal flakes in new vehicles before, but nothing large. Somehow, the tiny flakes got past the oil filter I guess.

Regardless, those vehicles went on to be just fine.

I was just saying in a NEW engine, I expect to find something...but in my Vespa, I did not, which was an unusual experience.

I've found tiny metal flakes in older engines' used oil sometimes, too...but again, they went on just fine and never had any problem that could relate to said flakes (whatever part or process that produced them).

So maybe it doesn't matter if you do or do not find them because in most cases, it doesn't always mean something negative is likely to happen down the road. Still, it's nice to find none at all...even if it MIGHT be no big deal and/or no particular future indicator either way.

There were a few bits caught in the screen when i changed my oil the first time. Haven't a clue where they come from but others have found some to. Don't know if they'd do any damage but best to get them out of there i think. Oh and i'm not talking about hunks of metal but you i saw small little specks.flecks of metal.

Then Warren asked my opinion on that stock and I told him just the opposite. Then we discussed gear vs. no gear.
