The sandstorms are bad. You can feel them coming well before they get here because the concentration of dirt in the air (looks like fog) will increase and your eyes will start to burn like hell. Your nose will get stuffed from all the dirt it is filtering. Once the actual storm comes you have to get in a vehicle or something, and you will have sand everywhere, no exceptions. The sweat helps it stick
My dad had a girlfriend once that was a veteran of the Gulf War. She had been in the Army. When she came back, they had to do brain surgery to remove the sand that was rubbing between her meninges and her brain I really believe that the Arab people have adapted/evolved to their climate; whereas, us non-desert dwellers can be really susceptible.

Stay safe.

That sounds completely miserable!

Have you recently returned from there?
I believe he is currently stationed in Iraq and about to head home soon to Miami. He has a scooter, I think a GTS300, waiting for him

SONIAM :shock Story about your dads GF.: So totally agree with people adapting to their environments. Look at the heat in Africa also. I'm dying and they are out playing soccer Wha? emoticon Another great example are the sherpas who carry stuff at insanely high altitudes They have adapted by having larger hearts so more oxygen gets pumped around in their veins enabling them to do the thing they do Evolution is fascinating.

Just on a side note.

I noticed that my postings (before this one) was 555.

Viewers of this post was 666.

When I parked my scooter the odometer read 4444.4.

And I just opened a bill that was for 222 dollars.

Is the world trying to tell me something?

Not that it quite ties in with the above but I got married on 7/7/07

It was so hot today. Went to the beach after work, and the water in the gulf was like a hot tub. A friend of mine made the comment, "I pee'd in the gulf today and made a cold spot!"

Here's my favorite Southern joke.

There are 2 older sisters sitting on a porch of a big plantation. One is going on about how wonderful her life has been, how rich she is, how big her house is, how wonderful and handsome her husband is, etc. The other just sits and listens. The first sister stops and says "usually you would be cursing me out and hitting me by now". The second sister says "well, I've been to etiquette school and they taught me to say "how nice" instead of "fuck you"".
you can only push a Texas girl so far.....

Gotta LOVE those polite southerners. I have a friend who always says "bless their heart". Translation? F'$@k them!

hee hee, my grandmother was a good one for using "bless her/his heart" and that was a huge slam!

Well,
It's been very hot here in Miami, but if you have good landscaping/foliage and materials (concrete/pavers/etc) in the surrounding area (roads, buildings, sidewalks) that reflect heat instead of absorbing it, it's not so bad. Shame most cities use the cheap stuff that cooks the air and you making it hotter than it should be.

I have to admit that the weather (specifically the humidity) here in the great Middle West has defeated my attempts to ride my scoot on a number of occasions this summer. I grew up in Northern California--I'm just not used to the sort of humidity we get here in central Illinois. Heat's OK. Sopping wet ooze, I'm not so OK with. Now I know there are worse places--but judging by the dew points I've been reading lately, there really isn't much difference between the 90 degrees here and the 90 degrees in Miami. If it's going to be 90 degrees and 90% humidity, I'd rather be sitting on a beach in Tahiti than sitting on the back on my scoot dressed in gear from head to toe. Add to that the fact that the other half of the year it's freezing with ice and snow on the roads, the effective number of good, comfortable and safe riding days is down to about 100 a year. Oh well...
