I was thinking this needs to be done today... Its only a matter of time before save the world kills off all petrol engines. At that point I'm gonna be more than happy to swap to whatever engine it takes rather than ditching my scoot altogether! I'm sure when it comes to it you'll all strongly consider it, as in honesty its the freedom of the ride that makes us enjoy it... Just needs better range.

SSC debuted their Vtronic (based off the T5) and Ebretta (based off the TV) which are electric. I would never buy one though.

Have done a bit of research in this area, and built an electric bicycle that weighs 40# with a top speed of 45mph and a range of 20 miles at 30mph with human assist. I like the idea of converting a scoot and even picked up a bodge SX150 as a base for a conversion. Jumped first and then got down to some of the planning. My commute is 8 miles each way of top speed scooting on country roads. That means 5 to 6 hp which then calculates out to a lot of batteries...anyone want to buy a bodge?

I think that's also called Cassava.. and the roots are used for biofuel as you said.. Here's a tidbit of info..
Thanks E... http://waringinputih.wordpress.com/tag/singkong/ Interesting stuff. |

I've experimented with wind power generated from eating various bio-fuels. Im yet to notice any gains in performance but I'll keep trying.

I still love the way the vintage smokes!
I used to hate 2T and the loud shifty Vespas... But once you go vintage, you'll never look back. In this part of the world, most vintage Vespas owners loves 2T and would learn how to tinker on their engines. The furthest one would go is to convert to 12V. I left mine at 6v for the authenticity and feel. In Singapore, roads are all lit so weak head lights were never an issue. |

I want one! After seizing the last motor...boring. Skid, yawn.... I could blow this one up and literally burn it to the ground.

Just wondering if your still doing electric engine kits for vintage Vespas ?
This thread is 6 years old so technologies have probably improved since you did your project. I wanted to do a similar project but just looking for some guidance. Thank you. David |

It's something I may have to consider with the coming decade. Thailand's government is starting to chirp about phasing out certain liquid based petrol and pushing for more electric. Diesel is the first on their list to be eliminated which is great. I hate the exhaust from diesel vehicles, especially if they are out of tune. I think even the German government is now reluctantly saying how dangerous diesel exhaust is for living organisms.

There are two main ways to do the conversion:
- an electric motor that spins a belt or chain connected to the factory gearbox - replacing the entire motor and hub with a single electric hub (and a custom swingarm) the 2nd option is less complicated in my opinion - that's what I'm doing you can see the parts I'm using in my thread here: "Lucciola" all-electric V9A1T smallframe build |

oh you mean converting to electronic ignition (instead of physical/points ignition)
there are lots of kits for this! easy swap, lots of debate over which is "better" I thought you were talking about converting from a gasoline engine to an electric motor |

I can't help thinking with the eco crackdown on petrol engines that our passion could be eradicated to regulation. We no longer can buy 2 strokes new, certain cities ban 2 strokes, such as Rome, it might be and hate the thought we will be forced to electric convert down the line. If you've got a project scooter and want to go electric go for it. Would I do it, yes but the cost is considerable. My worry would be safety as they can't be heard. There was some proposal to fit electric vehicles with an actual noise so others could hear it. But like sticking a lolly stick in your bicycle spokes as a kid to make audible fake engine noise. Heres a site in UK doing electric kits for vespa and lambrettas. https://www.retrospectivescooters.com/for-sale/project-e-electric-vespa-conversion the range i think is crap, speed questionable , cost ridiculous, but maybe for a small frame 50cc job electric convert could be fun for pottering to shops.

retrospective using the same hub motor I'm using in my project (thread linked above)
you can DIY the project for half the cost easily the big expense is coming up with a retail battery you can sell to consumers and ship worldwide - certification and testing is expensive |

Hi, everyone
I would like to use a 3d printer to print a large-frame motor for my thesis. does anyone have useful cad data for it? Unfortunately, the housing is not easy to measure, hence my question here. maybe someone can help me? cheers sas |

Personally i wouldn't convert a whole and running scooter but i would consider it if i was rescuing a parts bike or one with no engine etc.

Maybe for something like this.
The motor from a Zero SRF, a big sport bike, is smaller than the Vespa engine, and prodces 110hp. 10 times a 200cc Vespa two stroke. Then you could go 300 mph on a bike with 10" wheels and limited braking power, that feels scary at 75 mph. ![]() ![]() |
