Modern Vespa

Good afternoon,

I currently own a Vespa 200 GT and recently test drove the Piaggio MP3 500. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but was wondering if anyone knows when the MP3 500 Sport will be available for purchase in the United States. I have seen a few pictures/articles of it online, but none of the local Vespa dealerships can provide this answer, nor can Piaggio USA. The model that I am interested in is the Black and Titanium color combination. It seems to already be out in Canada, in a slightly altered version that also includes red accents (which I thought took away from the bike's beauty).

You are right that it is out in Canada. My dealer has one on the floor and it is a beauty. When it will come out in the US is anybodies guess. I just read an interview with Paolo Timoni from Piaggio Group Americas in a Canadian M/C magazine. Here's what he had to say about Canadian/US models:

Q: Will Canada and the US get the same models?

A: No.

Thanks so much for the great pictures and info, Dave. It is a sharp looking bike. I'm holding off pulling the trigger on one with the hope that the titanium and black model that I saw on the internet supposedly destined for the U.S. does make it here for sale. It is a little frustrating not having a clear answer as to if and when, though.

Get used to it. Piaggio is notorious for out of date or lack of info.

dealers MIGHT know. most of the time they only know when they are actually get the shipping documents when the scoots are coming. But your best bet to find out would be to call a dealer.
