Checked the wiki, but could find a cross reference for the MP3 500 oil filter.
Almost fainted at the dealer when the parts counter guy said " that will be $18"

Surely there is an auto parts store filter that will fit .

There's a list of filters on the Wiki under the 400. The 500 uses the same filters (so I'm told).

Not recommending an automotive filter, just providing the info.

save yourself the agrevation and get a couple of hi-flo's from scootertrap for $21 shipped to your door. They are great filters and when compared to OEM probably better as the inlet oil holes are just a tad bigger for more flow. and 1/2 the price.

Actually USD18 is about right for a shipped OEM part - but you must be able to find the Hi-Flo equivalent for half that.

For my mp3/500, dealer sold me a "parts unlimited #01-0063" oil filter. Cannot find a supplier selling to the public yet. Still charged me $18 for after market item. Has label over cover with # oem 830239 on it.

athena or hiflo sells filter to dealers. Your dealer screwed you for that price.

$21 for 2 each to your door from scootertrap

Filter King on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260208626790&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Three Hi-Flo HF184's for $30.45 with free shipping on eBay from the Filter King. They aslo sell the filter individually for $12.80 with free shipping.

The Filter King doesn't list the MP3 on their application chart but Hi-Flo website lists the HF184 as the correct filter for the MP3 400 which would be the 500 as well.

" should be the same as the 500"
" fits I think "

I will investigate and report back

Looks like the filter on the Briggs and Stratton lawn tractor engine should fit

found the h184 listing for the fuco 500, under the updated list. But only list as 08' 09', and no longer available? Did not go back to the mp3/400 list. NJ people are sometimes, big rip offs! Look at our states debt! Rumor is, they are planning on telling kids to bring in their own "toilet paper and soap". This country is going "DOWN"! Thanks for the ebay listing, hope they can be screwed off? LOL.

I think the listing "not available" refers to an air filter not the oil filter.

I use the HF184 works well. Dennis Kirk has them

Scooterwest has a great wrench for $25. Beware they list a HF183 filter that is not for the 400/500 engine

Again I love all the support here, thanks again. Did order #184 filters, and the special wrench. More "special tools"! Wha? emoticon
