I am looking to buy some riding gear. I prefer to buy online and have it shipped to the house. The local scooter shops are all marked up very high (Vepsa Dealers) and their selection is poor.

Please let me know where you all buy your stuff from, anything from helmets and gloves, to tires and oil. Thank you much!

Two of the key issues for gear (helmets, apparel) are fit and comfort. Web buying without first trying gear on is a risky proposition. Consider this as you make your decisions.

hyperliteCKY, I've gotten gear from Motorcycle Superstore and have been very happy with their prices, prompt shipping, and service. Another vendor that a lot of folks here use is NewEnough.

Returns are very easy with Motorcycle Superstore. Just get an RMA number from them, print out a shipping label, and drop it at a UPS store (or arrange pickup). It costs $6.99 but I'd spend more than that on gas, tolls and tax to get to a store that has the selection that they do.

For parts, bling, etc., I've been buying mostly from Scooterwest.

This isn't my first rodeo, I'm a grown adult I understand about sizing and what not. It seems like every post on this site is being fearful of everything and worrying about all the "what ifs"

I have ordered things online before, its no different than shoes or hats or anything else, if it doesn't fit send it back for a different size, thanks a lot "dad"
How'bout a little respect for someone who has taken the time to respond and be helpful? Nobody is asking you to agree, and you're welcome to voice your opinion, but please, dissing a member who is simply trying to assist you isn't such great manners.

It just seems like no matter what you post on here somebody has an immediate negative response. It's frustrating.

One of the shops in our area does their best to match online prices, particularly on helmets, because they found that people were coming in and using them as a fitting room, then going home to order online.

Sorry you view a cautionary (and accurate) statement as "negative". Will defer from responding in the future.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

You ask for help, and than slam someone who offers some advice? I would not be surprised if that action turns away others who would have been willing to help you out.

When I read this I see someone asking for help with where to purchase riding "stuff" from online. I don't see him suggesting that he has never purchased anything online and/or what he should look for/consider when participating in online shopping.

Perhaps the advice suggested about the perils of online shopping (improper fit, etc...) would be better received if it also addressed his initial question of the recommended places. Otherwise, it just seems kind of paternalistic.

I recommend Motorcycle Superstore (www.motorcycle-superstore.com/), Extreme Supply (www.extremesupply.com/), and Scooterwest (www.scooterwest.com/)

When someone posts a question on a forum, they can expect a variety of responses, depending on what others understand the question to be. One person's "take" on a message can differ from that of another. Best to just ignore responses that are not addressing the question being asked.

However, for a member to respond in an insulting manner to someone who offered advice in a well-meaning manner is bound to earn him or her a bad reputation. It is also against the Posting Guidelines.

- Whining about or otherwise criticizing forum policy
- Argumentative behavior*
- Pornography**
- Commercial postings, solicitations, or promotions***
- Avatars or sig pictures that are off-color, NSFW, or in poor taste
The OP did not need to respond in the way he did, regardless of whether he found the response to his question frustrating ... or paternalistic.

Wow, people are a lot more uptight on here than I expected. That was not a personal attack. I was not rude. I used some minor sarcasm but by no means did I say anything to hurt the person or "attack" them. I simply let the individual know that his advice was not what I was looking for in any way. If it hurt peoples feelings that I told them they were wrong without saying please then I am sorry for that, however they should avoid further posts from me so it doesn't involuntarily happen again. I am a courteous guy and if that post hurt so many peoples feelings then I guess I did not realize it

That simple statement got me a half an X under my name, wow.

SORRY TO ALL WHOM I OFFENDED

I am always greatly amused when someone wanders in off the street and -- without regard for the general tone or level of civility of the establishment -- starts mouthing off and hurling around insults like "uptight". This behavior lies at the intersection of ignorance and arrogance, and represents the worst type of self-important personality.

I have neither the patience nor interest in teaching you good manners. Hopefully someday you'll figure it out for yourself, but I doubt it.

This thread is a good example of how quickly things can go south on an online forum. For what it's worth, hyperlite, the person who initially responded to your post may well have thought that as 1) a new MV member who was 2) looking for suggestions on gear, you were new to two-wheelers. It was well-intentioned and he had no way of knowing what your experience level was. You kind of shot yourself in the foot by getting pissy in response.

on line purchases
Its usually pretty easy and reliable to buy just about anything on line.. But
consider the fact that your local dealer probably lives in your town, pays
taxes to support your city and schools and creates employment which
in turn contributes to your community. I don't mind paying a little more
if necessary to support my local businesses. Also consider the fact that
if they don't survive, they won't be around to help you when you really
need them. If their prices are way out of line, they just might give you a
better price if given the chance.

Modern Vespa is the premier site for modern Vespa and Piaggio scooters. Vespa GTS300, GTS250, GTV, GT200, LX150, LXS, ET4, ET2, MP3, Fuoco, Elettrica and more.
