Perhaps the advice suggested about the perils of online shopping (improper fit, etc...) would be better received if it also addressed his initial question of the recommended places. Otherwise, it just seems kind of paternalistic
When someone posts a question on a forum, they can expect a variety of responses, depending on what others understand the question to be. One person's "take" on a message can differ from that of another. Best to just ignore responses that are not addressing the question being asked.
However, for a member to respond in an insulting manner to someone who offered advice in a well-meaning manner is bound to earn him or her a bad reputation. It is also against the

The OP did not need to respond in the way he did, regardless of whether he found the response to his question frustrating ... or paternalistic.
