I did my first oil change on my LX150ie this past weekend. The crankcase
oil was easy and hub oil was a real thrill! I split a piece of garden hose in
half the long way and used it as a trough to guide the oil into the oil catch
pan. I worked ok, but does anybody have a better idea? Seems there
should be an easier way to do this.

Thanks in advance.

And, thank you to all whom have responded to my questions in the past.
This site is a great help.

You can use a funnel or Motul gear oil has a spout on the bottle.

I believe the OP was talking about channeling the hub oil out rather than how to get it in.

I cut down a water bottle into a trough to catch the gear oil. Something similar to what is mentioned in the Wiki article
ET4: Gear Box Oil Change

It works, but not as well as I would like...I usually manage to spill some out the back.

I'm due for another change soon. I'll see if I can come up with something better then, or else try to cut the bottle a bit better.

I simply take some tin foil and shape a trough and lay it on top of the wheel rim (shape to fit) and then shape down into oil trap. After I'm done I simple crumple up and place into oil trap and dispose.

Last weekend I changed my hub oil and also used foil shaped as a trough funneled into a discarded water bottle I found in the trash.

I just put the pictures back for the Wiki. I thought they were saved by Modern Vespa ?

+1 I like the water bottle concept if you are changing with the wheel on.

To change the hub oil without removing the muffler or wheel, I use a turkey baster with a straw firmly attached to the end. Suck out as much of the hub oil as you can and measure what comes out. When it is the same amount as the hub capacity, replace with the same quantity of new oil.

I remember those other pictures because I printed a copy of the article some time ago. I have no idea what happened to them. I'm glad you put them back up because it makes things much clearer.
