So, my 2007 GTS 250ie had to have the Voltage REgulator replaced. Luckily, I figured out what it was before it ruined my battery or any other components. My question is, how many people have had this part go bad on their scoots, and secondly, did the dealer rip me off by charging $250 (about $100 for the part and almost two hours labor) to fix it. At least he had the part in stock, I am tod Vespa is really slow sending parts to the States. I guess it's not a ripoff if it got my Vespa back on the road. Now, if it would just stop raining long enough to ride it.
The VR in my former BV500 (same one that the Vespa uses) went bad. I replaced it myself. The VR was around $140 and it took me around one and a half hours to replace it due to all of the plastic pieces that had to be removed on the BV. I know where the VR is located on the GTS and 1 1/2-2 hours is a reasonable amount of time to replace it.
I have an 07 250 ie, V.R. went bad at around 4000 mi. Cost was about the same for the part, put it in myself, (was on crutches with a broken foot).
Saved on the labor. The hardest part was unbolting and bolting the new one in, not much room. 8)
Must be epidemic. Saw my engine light going on the other day at speed and then shutting off again at idle. DougL gave me a clue about it and sure enough my multimeter indicated around 18V at 4000rpm. Anyone have a good and cheap source for VR's?
