Hello
I took my GTS 250 into the shop recently and they had to adjust the steering bearing. It seems like they did not properly reassemble the bike because the front wheel is now exceedingly easy to adjust the alignment. I hit a minor pothole and noticed imediately that the handle bars were no longer aligned with the front wheel. When i went to address the issue, i locked the wheel and with light force was able to allign the steering column.

I called the shop and it will be very inconvenient to bring the bike back so i was wondering if this is something i can easily fix myself. I am somewhat handy and my last project to replace the voltage regulator went fairly smoothly.

Thanks for the help in advance. you all are great

Easy - headset plastics off, nip up the pinch bolt, plastics back on. Half an hour tops, with three beers.

Jim, I do enjoy that your instructions always specify the number of beers required to complete the job.

If i had them handy i'd attempt this tonight. alas im working on my last so the job will have to wait until tomorrow.

Any specific tools required?

Based on Jim's instructions, I believe the job requires a Philips/cross head screwdriver, a set of metric box-end wrenches and three beers. Clown emoticon

indeed. now i've built up a good deal of anger at the dealership who did this. the question is what can i do about the fact that they screwed this up. do i have any recourse here? I was playing around with the scooter tonight and did the following test: while walking with the scooter i turned the wheel slightly and slammed the breaks, and the handlebars torqued about 15 degrees. If that had happened while driving it would have been a complete disaster.

At the very least can i call the credit card company an dispute the charge?

Thoughts?

by the way i picked this up from the shop a week ago, so it is clearly the fault of the person who reassembled the bike after adjusting the steering bearing.

Don't fuss about it - if the bearings are sorted that's the main thing - the pinch-bolt is trivial. Just DIY.

....and a big allen key to hold the other side of the pinch bolt IIRC.

Save the 3 beers for after, so you don't over-tighten the screws in the plastics.

gettting the bars exactly straight is the tricky part. If you line up the front mud guard so it looks exactly straight in regards to the frame and do the same with the handlebars it should be good.

Shop managed to screw up the simple pinch bolt. What's the probability the bearings are right?
