I think the GT first came out in '02 or '03. The GTS in '06...I think.

You'll have to tell us where you are, as both were out in Europe before the US.

The GT was a carburator based 200cc engine. Discontinued. I believe 2008 or 2009 was the last model year.

The GTS 250ie is a fuel injected 250cc engine. There is also now a GTS 300ie which is a 278cc engine.
(ie is the "fuel injected" designation - even if it's not written or spoken as "ie" the 250 and 300 Vespa engines are all "ie")

To my knowledge there is virtually zero difference between a 2006 and a 2009 GTS 250.

The difference between the GTS 250 and the GTS 300, besides the obvious engine differences, is cosmetic. Different instrument cluster, slight body differences, etc.

Not a lot of differences between the 200, 250, and 300, and in general there are almost no difference across years of the same model.

hope that makes sense...

US GT's were sold from '04 to '09. GTS's were from '06 to '09.

Changes in the GT throughout its production included minor coolant circuit changes, and a few cosmetic changes, most of which were an attempt to homologize with some of the subtle differences of the GTS (front shock cover, brake reservoir covers and mirror boots)

Differences among GTS's amount to different parts supplier sourcing, such as wheels, gauge LCD's, brake levers, etc. A mechanical change in the GTS was the use of a different stator at one point.

Mechanical differences between the 200 and 250 are mostly the fuel system components as discussed. Also, the starter and associated gearing (bendix) on a GT is more akin to the LX. The GTS's starter system is entirely different. The centerstand is also much beefier and easier to use on the GTS. Cosmetically, the GTS has a light on the horncast which the GT does not, and a crest on the front mudguard. The gauges and saddles are also different. In the tail section, the GT has a "duckbill" rack best suited for topcase mounting, whereas the GTS has a chrome fold-down rack. The taillight, rear mudguard and side fairings are also different from GT to GTS.

I think that's all the major stuff. Did I miss anything? Do I pass the quiz?

starter motor different as you mention
coil different, and located in different areas (tunnel vs. engine compartment)
voltage regulator is different, located in different areas (e.g., on the GTS there are relays where the voltage regulator is on for the GT). votage regulator on the GTS is HUGE and mounted over the right radiator
There are some weird relay location differences in the engine compartment that are a result of the fuel pump.
the GTS has an outdoor temp sensor that doesn't exist on the GT, so there's no ambient sensor.

other than that, it's pretty close. just a few other fiddly things.
