I have both Vespa and American Motorcyclist Association roadside assistance cards. Whom do I call first, or do I call both and see who shows up first? Sort of like (1) Call 911, (2) Call for a pizza (3) Offer cops cold pizza?
I would definitely call both. But, they probably both contract with the same local company. So which every has the better contract will get there first.
I had an experience with road Vespa roadside. Took a really long time to get to a human on the phone. The truck was going to take over an hour to get to me and the tow was going to be more than the $100,00 max so I would have to pay in cash when they arrived. Lucky for me I didn't need the tow after all so I cancelled it.
I did wind up needing a tow several days later and used Triple A. A real pleasure. Pick-up within 45 minutes and towed about 40 miles to the dealer. Thats another long story you can read about in another post.
Another member recommended Geico, sounded like a good deal that I'm looking into. Hope this helps - good luck
I was pretty much in the sticks (foothills of Palomar Mountain in N. San Diego county) Got a human voice second ring. Saw a tow truck in 35 minutes.
I think the timing issue is how long it takes for them to get to you has not much do to with who you call, but what contracted tow service is in your area. I agree, many roadside assitance services contract with many dealers.
I called Vespa and the tow truck was a AAA tow truck. He said if I would have calledf AAA, he would have arrived at he same time.
I posted in the other thread. I was happy with my AAA tow earlier this summer. Flat bed with m/c dolly. No real issues, I had to help him to get the bike stabilized on the dolly without breaking any body parts.
I used the Vespa tow service instead of the one on my Progressive insurance. I'm pretty sure I would front the money on Progressive and get reimbursed.
Vespa answered quickly, asked if I was in a safe place (do they get someone there quicker if you say no??) Ordered a truck that could pick up a scooter. I was 30 miles out of town on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They told me it would be 1.25 hours. Called me at 1.50 hr to see if they were there - no. Called wrecker driver directly and patched me through to him to give him specific directions and get ETA (15 min). He took 17 minutes. Vespa called me again to make sure he was there.
This was about 6pm on a Saturday. The driver took my scoot to his yard to store it Sunday, and took it to the dealer Monday am - about 65 miles. No extra charge - all covered by Vespa. Vespa called again Monday afternoon with a request for feedback/quality assurance.
It took a long time, but not necessarily their fault. They paid for everything and the guy did a good job, plus the extra of storing it for a day. All in all, a very good experience.
