Well, I shouldn't say it's the lock. The chain is broken. It's been this way for several days now. The nearest dealership is two hours away, and I don't have enough gas in my tank to get me there. The local motorcycle shops are unable to help me. I've heard that this is a frequent problem and I know that someone here has to know how to get the seat open. I have PMed jimh and I have also called him twice, but to no avail. Can anyone help me out? Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance! ⚠️ Last edited by austinmiles on UTC; edited 1 time

No ones gonna want to post on here for this in the event that this might be someone trying to rob from a Vespa.

Would you like me to post a picture of me holding the title next to the scoot? Or what should I do to prove that I'm not trying to break into it?

I'm not understanding. To what chain are you referring ... and why would a broken chain prevent you from opening the seat with your key if the lock isn't broken?

I am referring to the chain under the seat of my LX 150. When I turn the key, it gives very little (if any) resistance. I took it to a local motorcycle shop about an hour ago and he was able to use some long needle-nose pliers to try to pull on the chain to get the seat open. When he did so, a smallish length of chain just came right out. So it's not the actual seat lock that's broken, it's the chain.

Sorry to hear that your seat cable came apart. MessyColoring did a nice write up on how to fix this (link below). Hope that it works!

Thanks! I found how to replace the cable, but I still need to know how to open the seat in order to get to the source of the problem. I know that this is not information that is just given out often. I was just hoping that someone would be willing to help me out. I can validate that I am the owner of the scooter.

Hopefully, someone will PM the solution to you shortly. Even though you are the legitimate owner of the scooter, openly publishing how to open a locked seat puts that info out for anybody to read and certainly will show up on a Google search. That is why we play close to the vest on these requests.

AUSTIN can you call the dealer? I'm not good at getting into something and wouldn't want you to do more damage. I don't know why people don't just put it on the forum because if a thief wanted to get into it all they would do is take a big screwdriver to it, not come on this forum and ask how to Hopefully someone will pm you soon. Good luck

LX 150 seat lock broken
Hey Everyone,
First time poster, bittersweet reason to finially join MV, as I need some help unlocking my broken seat lock. I've been reading the posts throughout the board and realize that the instructions won't come easily. A few notes: -I have a trunk attached to my scoot, does that inhibit unlocking the seat lock? - Anyone from Brooklyn will know Scooter Bottega, I went there earlier today but I don't want to resort to destroying the seat just to get it open. If anyone can help, or know of who I can direct message, it would be greatly appreciated. |

So here's my question: If I don't ever overload the pet carrier and the seat lock engages easily without ever being forced, can I be pretty well assured that I will never have this problem (again)?

The best bet is to learn how to weasel in by studying the various photos and examining the latch assembly to see how it works. Then let the old Yankee Ingenuity kick in and practice opening without a key until you can do it every time. You will never be locked out again. |
