I'm not going to touch the cop debate but thought I'd try to inject a little bit of levity since Ayn Rand keeps coming up (never thought I'd write 'levity' and 'Ayn Rand' in the same sentence).

I recently came across this little gem: Our Daughter Isn't a Selfish Brat; Your Son Just Hasn't Read Atlas Shrugged. Hopefully you'll find it as funny as I did.

Thats funny as hell.....

"Look, imagine what would happen if we were to enact some sort of potty training Equalization of Opportunity Act in which we regularized the distribution all of Johanna's and Aiden's potty chart stickers. Suddenly it would seem as if Aiden had earned the right to wear big-boy underpants, and within minutes you'd have a Taggart Tunnel-esque catastrophe on your hands, if you follow me."

Biting caustic sarcasm....tasty.... Razz emoticon

i like the police, but when one gives me a ticket for going a few over the speed limit and people are going much faster than me all the time, what i mean is when i get a ticket for going 5mph over and someone within 30 sec of me will be doing 20mph over, why the hell are you writing me the ticket. if you look for saftey go after the big offenders not the first you see. and i never get a brake becouse i am a young male. they don't give me warnings just tickets. but i have beatin them so far.
It is highly unlikely that you were cited for 5 mph over the limit. Trying to justify your actions by comparing with the actions of others is indeed the sign of a young person.

Maybe some of those tickets would turn into warnings if you tweaked the attitude a little bit. However, if you are "beatin" them as you say, keep up the good work. Razz emoticon
hey i have lots of cop fiends, i am good to them trhough the whole stop, but when you clock me going a little over the speed limit and by the time you catch up to me, others have passed me and are way up the street and as you are writing the ticket you see people oncomming that are slamming on their brakes becouse they were going really fast and don't want to get cought, then you get this ticket, it pisses you off. i was not going faster than anyone else and lots others were going MUCH faster than me while he was writing this ticket. what i mean is people go 70+ in a 50 and i get a ticket for 56.. that is bullshit and anyone else who gets a ticket for this knows it is about revenue and not about public saftey.

RagazzaInGiro, Thanks for your comments. Perusing the thread, most of the comments have been supportive of police. I don't think there's much here to be upset about.

We're a very diverse community here, something that I've come to appreciate about "modern" scooterists. With this comes a range of opinions on all things, including law enforcement and the police. I don't think any LEO would be shocked to learn that while most of us appreciate the police and their service to the public, some resent when they're the ones caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

ericalm - thanks. As I somewhat stated, I think OP might be a little sensitve. At the same time, as you say, no one likes to get caught w/their hand in the cookie jar.

The bottom line is we live in a society and there are rules to follow. Just as I registered on Modern Vespa, I had to agree to follow the rules instituted on this site. They are reasonable and I respect that. Moderators enforce them and posts are generally civil. Anytime things get out of hand, posts can be deleted, removed, threads closed or demerits or whatever penalties that are appropriate.

It's the same thing when someone is issued a driver's license. Once someone signs their name on it at DMV, they are basically agreeing to follow the rules of the road. If you don't, you run the risk of getting a ticket.

Anyway, thanks for have such a great board!

I just hate the holier than thou sentiment.

I'll treat you with respect because your wearing the uniform, but come on... try treating me with some respect as well. And unfortunately I've had too many experiences being treated like crap from the police.

Otherwise I like the police. But when a scooterist posts on how a policeman who was obviously being belligerent and following closely rammed into into his Vespa you are not going to get praise for the "almighty" police.

HERE IS THE KICKER:
If ever you disagree with the police officer and you go to (traffic) court, you are presumed guilty and you have to prove your innocence .

this is contrary to everything we stand for In the USA.

That is why there is so much pissing and moaning about police officers.... because if you ever run in to one of them on a vehicle you are guilty until proven innocent.
You just pray he doesn't accuse you of anything you weren't doing cuz you would be guilty of that as well.

DWI Cop kills motorcyclist and has charges dropped

Above The Law was bad when it was a cheesy Seagal movie from the late 80's... It's even worse when it's real life. An Indiana police officer, David Bisard, crashed his cruiser into two stopped motorcycles on Aug. 6, killing 30 year old Eric Wells and injuring two other people. But, that's not all... he was legally drunk! And even THAT is not all... the DUI charges from the accident were dropped!

Hundreds of motorcyclists gathered Friday night at Monument Circle at the city's center to show support for the victims and to protest the dismissal of the drunken driving charges. Bisard, if convicted, could face up to 20 years in prison.
A survey on THIS page ( http://www.theindychannel.com/news/24592809/detail.html )says 32% of those polled agree with how the city is handling this case.

Seriously? What's your point for posting this in this thread?

Yes, sometimes police officers do bad things. Like the rest of the human race, they're not infallible. Plenty of non-cops cause DUI-related accidents every day.

I read the post and the links referenced. Where is a credible source saying that the charges have been dropped?
