When we moved to St Croix it was 89 cents a 750. Coke was a buck nineteen. Fell off the stool on the company tour at every chance! Cruzan roti with rum and ginger beer, heaven!

St. Croix must be heaven. Total Wine here in Tucson retails Cruzan Black Strap rum at $12.99 for a 750. I'll definitely have to try it with ginger beer. I believe there's a drink called "A Dark & Stormy Night" that features those two ingredients.

"Will make you such!" (holding index finger straight up) Cruzan ditty as told to me on Estate Orange Grove.
By volume. Lime, raw sugar simple syrup, Cruzan rum, and water.
BTW an MV member distills rum.

As opposed to what the English do with poorly made food, which is to serve it as-is. And last I checked, the deep-fried genre wasn't by any means limited to American borders. *Cough*Scotland*Cough*

Heh. I was looking for some advanced stir-fry techniques on youtube, and stumbled on a Jamie Oliver video where he was (allegedly) telling us how to do a proper stir-fry. He started with a nonstick pan, and said "heat it up really good".

That's when I started yelling at the computer.

What's really funny is that he starts the subject by saying that he's seen some other people doing it wrong, and then proceeds to completely misunderstand the entirety of wok cooking.

Oh, the irony!

Every place probably has a "Dark 'n Stormy". In Bermuda (where I believe they were invented) it is Goslings Black Seal Rum mixed with Ginger Beer. Barretts had a good Ginger Beer when I lived there but it appears that Goslings is now making their own.

Absolutely. I fondly remember a Fourth of July evening spent on the water-side deck of the St. Georges Yacht and Dinghy Club in 1990 after finishing the Bermuda Ocean Race. We were being plied with Dark 'n' Stormys by the official Goslings bimbette (Goslings had provided many cases of rum for the event) and were lamenting the fact that we would be missing fireworks this particular Fourth.

But... soon after the sun set and the buzz was really getting palpable, we were amazed to see skyrockets explode over the other side of the harbor. The US Navy base came through! A truly memorable Fourth.

I'm not absolutely sure what Bill was referring to, but the UK version of baked beans appears to be more like our canned "pork & beans" rather than the goodness of navy beans baked with lots of bacon and molasses.
