A long time ago, many popular motorcycle marques were also known by knicknames...people will recognize the term 'Beemer' for BMW vehicles, both motorcycle and car....but at one time, you could hear a BSA bike referred to as a 'Beezer', and a Triumph as a 'Trumpet'. Ducati's were, and still are, 'Ducs' or 'Ducks', and if you rode a Moto Guzzi, it was your 'Goose'.

I'm merely showing my age, as well as my vast pool of useless and trivial knowlege.

For the record, some other bikes that had knicknames were the mid-late 1960's Honda CB450, which was (and still is in certain circles) called the 'Black Bomber'.

The 1972-1977 Suzuki GT750 water-cooled two-stroke triple (phew!) was often called several names other than it's proper 'LeMans'...it was a 'Kettle' in England, and 'Water Buffalo' in the U.S. (and elsewhere) and I've also heard it called a 'Bazooka'...no doubt due to it's array of four seamed mufflers protruding from it's backside. I've owned five 'Water Buffalos', and dearly miss the stinky beasts.

Not a chance, Judy. Two-wheeling is not a zero-sum game. More bikes = more time riding.

Congrats on having the good taste to add another classic to the stable.

Here's mine:

Damn Triumph is so pretty...I don't even mind spending a little extra to feed it 91 octane for my early Sunday morning rides in the Black Hills.

Ridden from Wisconsin to the Sturgis rally. It was traded in on a Victory V-twin last week at the Honda/Suzuki/Victory dealership in Rapid City, South Dakota. Must have not been a planned transaction because the previous owner didn't bring the title with him, so I had to wait a few days until the previous owner got home, fished out the title and sent it back to SD.

I rode the bike home this past Friday afternoon after the title arrived at the dealership. The bike is a 2002 'Centennial' model T100 Bonneville, built in July 2001 according to the placard on the frame. I paid $3,100 for it.

It has a bunch of optional stuff on it, chrome front fender, aftermarket header pipes with Triumph 'shorty' bullet mufflers, optional factory centerstand (Yay!), chrome grab rail, and a few other small items.

Dude, you did well. Beautiful bike!

Mine's a 2007 with about 4500 miles and I paid a bit more. I like the "black" look, but your paint and bling are exceptionally sweet.

Nice one Scooterdoodler.
I was just saying last weekend how I have found my next purchase.
A Triumph Bonneville T100.
How is the seating position. Is it comfortable to ride over long distances?

We have a two month old 2009 Kawasaki 1400 Concour for those long distance duties, so I probably won't be using the T100 for any continent crossings on the superslab.

The seating position of the Bonneville is 'neutral', with the only discomfort I sense after 50 miles coming from the saddle, which in my bike's case, is not the stock T100 seat, but for some reason, my bike has a seat from the Triumph 900 'scrambler' version of the Bonneville....though I have no reason to believe that the original seat would be much better.

Vibration is simply not an issue with this model as far as I'm concerned, so that is not a factor. You can certainly feel that it's running, but it is very effectively subdued and not at all unpleasant, at least up to 75 mph, which is as fast as I've taken the bike.

A long distance rider on the Bonneville would probably opt for some kind of windshield, though I personally don't like them on a bike such as this, where too much 'stuff' dulls the total experience. In other words, I like the wind.

If I were to try some distance touring on the T100, I would probably stick to secondary highways rather than much interstate riding. This bike is wasted when it's forced to drone the interstates, though it's capable of doing that if forced to, there are many other machines more suitable for that sort of thing....including the 650 Burgman.
