Today my clutch cable broke, far from home. I thought I could change it myself, and had the scooter taken to my home. I was able to get a new cable, but when I tried to install it, I noticed that the slack adjuster was broken.

The part of the adjuster that sits on the outer cable came loose from the locking nut, and since the thread is very short it appears broken. Does this require a completely new outer cable or can the slack adjuster part be replaced?

Is it possible to somwhow install the new cable without the slack adjuster, just for driving the scooter to the shop for a professionel repair?

The slack adjuster can be replaced. You have to remove the cable end to slip the cable through the new one. You might be able to go without one if you opt for having it professionally replaced, but getting adjusted anywhere close to where it needs to be will most likely be a challenge. It's a good skill to have. It's nice to have the ability to change out a cable on the side of the road if you have to. It's not fun on the side of the road but it beats being stuck there.

It worked
I managed to install the clutch cable today and adjust it properly without using the slack adjuster. I left the broken adjuster in place, and pulled the cable really tight before tightening the nipple. Only had to move the nipple a very short distance for final adjustment. It wasn't easy, but it worked and should be OK until a planned service Friday.
