There are still 2 plastic tabs that fit into delicate plastic loops at the ends of the headset beside the grips that you need to deal with before it will come apart.

Proceed very gently as the plastic loops break very easily (don't ask me how I know!).

As other have said be careful and i really don't know why they went cheap on those. WAY to easy to break. SILVER or anybody else got a good fix for a broken one? Good luck with your project. Oh and a warm aloha and welcome to the forum.

Judy, I broke one of mine the first time I ever took the headset apart. I've thought about molding up a jury-rigged repair using J-B Weld putty, but never bothered because my headset stays aligned well without it and doesn't buzz or anything.

I find the best tool to use for getting these tabs off is a small 90 degree angle offset flat screw driver. You can nudge the plastic apart just enough to get the blade in between and pry it apart. Here is the tool Maureen uses in the above referenced video, you can buy the Craftsman 4 pc. Offset Screwdriver Set for $7.99 at Sears.

I think I cracked one of my tabs Crying or Very sad emoticon tonight when I changed my brake fluid. I guess I've had the headset apart one too many times. Is there any fix for it other than replacing the back cover? Or do I just live with it? It seems to be pretty solid without the tab holding.

edit: I hadn't read the whole thread and I see Dave had already addressed this. Sorry
