I'm going to check out a Serveta 150 this afternoon with a friend. What would you suggest as a starting offer on this scooter, given these pics and info:

there is rust on the steel bolts and other areas.
very low mileage (532), everything original.

THIS BIKE DOESN'T CURRENTLY RUN. the engine was taken apart for a cleaning and not reassembled.

Any other tips on things to look for on a Lammy?

I would offer $500 and not pay over $700 for a basket case. Looks like a good candidate for a rustoration.

I'm a Lambretta junkie and I wouldn't pay more than $400 or $500 for it, so I'd offer less. If the motor wasn't taken apart I'd consider a few hundred bucks more. You never know when someone else monkey'd around a motor. Right now, deals are showing up everywhere, especially on Serveta's.

I did pay $1,000 for an exact same scoot a few years ago. I figured I paid way too much, but I had it running good in a couple of hours. It had been sitting for "only" five years or so. I took that gamble on the one I bought.

Just take into consideration even a $500 scoot may not always end up being a deal. After dumping major cash into an engine rebuild, 12V ignition upgrade (necessity on that bike), tires/tubes, cables, and all the crap it will need to be a road worthy rustoration, it can be cheaper to buy a running scooter. You may be the person like me who enjoys drinking beer all night in the garage working on scoots though.

And once all the necessary upgrades and money is dumped into a Lambretta they are very fine running/riding and reliable machines. I do expect some bias in a Vespa forum though.
