What started out as five of us riding to Bakewell ended up with me and 60yomod riding to Whitby.
The weather was fantastic the ride busy but uneventful, the destination was absolutely packed out but we had a great day.
As always the scenery on the North Yorks Moors was absolutely stunning

The Wild Ones hit Whitby.

Well, not quite. About a zillion Harley riders.

Then Oultondave and me.

We represented the light side.

Sadly T5bitsa couldn't make it. I knew he'd convert to the shiny side once he saw my bathroom fittings.

I set off from Baildon just after 8.00 am on a glorious late summer day. Much dappled sunlight en route via the village lanes, which created a weird floating effect. It was like I wasn't planted on the road.

Still, you only get dapple if you have sun, so no complaints there.

Met up in Tadcaster 0930. Home to several breweries, but too early to sample their wares. And with my riding skills, perhaps not advisable.

Then on to Whitby, over the North Yorkshire moors. Whitby is one of the jewels on the Yorkshire east coast (well, Yorkshire's only coast). The west borders with Lancashire, but we don't talk about that.

Dave's been scooting man and boy and has more miles under his belt than I've hot dinners under mine.

Given this was my first ride with anyone, and first longer distance ride (about 170 miles, round trip) he looked after me like the gent he is. So, frequent stops, whilst the pipe and ciggies came out, and we admired the views.

Arrived in Whitby without a scratch on us. The weather Gods were still smiling, and the joint was packed. It's a great little traditional Yorkshire seaside town, popular with Goths - as it gave Bram Stoker the inspiration for "Dracula". It was also home to explorer extraordinaire, Captain Cook.

Great day wandering round stuffing our faces with hot pork sandwiches.

One farcical moment, of several involving me.

Got back to the bikes to set off home. Where we were parked was then surrounded by Harley riders gunning their mighty steeds.

The sun was beating down, I was sweating like a bitch, the noise was indescribable, they were waiting for me to back out so they could get in.

I managed to get my helmet on but couldn't see far enough down to zip my jacket up right.

Eventually I thought "sod it, I've got to get out of here", so rode out jacket akimbo till I could find a shady spot, take the helmet off, and get the jacket on right.

Meanwhile Dave was half way home before he realised I wasn't behind. I exaggerate to make the point. He was about 50 yards up the road.

Got home safe to find our youngest girl had come home a day early (she teaches at Holland Park in London) and rounded it off with a balti chicken from the local curry house.

Happy days.

All round great day, and many thanks to Dave for his companionship and for looking after me.

The photos have an element of duplication. We should have planned the shots better. Next time

Why didn't I take more scoot shots ?

Another kind of ride. And no, we didn't.

Yeah... I can see it now....

I would come home to find 12 mirrors, 5 head lamps, 3 horns, and 2 pin wheels on my scoot.... not to mention a giant RAF sticker on my garage door. Facepalm emoticon ROFL emoticon
