A 4 stroke manual shift scoot? I would like to add a traditional scoot to the stable, but would prefer it not blow blue smoke. I know I can score a Bajaj or a Stella...but was wondering if something like a P200 was ever built in 4 stroke fashion before the GT200 came out.

Nope. No Vespa 4T manual was ever manufactured.

A Bajaj is a good option...horrible looking but in a nice way.

A Bajaj Chetak can be made to look quite a lot like a PX. The horncast would be the biggest improvement (turn signals might be a challenge). The spare can be moved to the battery side cowl, and you can use any largeframe seat.

But... why bother? A bajaj is a bajaj is a bajaj. It will never be a vespa. Trying to make it look more like one just makes you seem like you're not comfortable with your choice

I throw my hat in with eric. By all accounts, the Chetak/Legend are basically bullet proof scooters. If you want a 4T, buy one of them for that and accept their looks. Why "bodge" one to try to make it look like what it isn't?

To be honest, I'd go for a Chetak in prime condition before I'd take a chance on an untested Stella 4T.

Doesn't Chad have one for a bargain price?

Not so sure. Don't have the time to dig, but if memory serves me (and at my age that's questionable) there have been threads here and elsewhere that point to some significant differences. Not having played hands on with either, I cannot state with authority one way or the other.

Even so, the Bajaj has a good track record as being bullet proof. So you have a choice, bullet proof with somewhat wonky looks, or untested and PX looks. And, of course, the difference in price, and used Bajajs are currently available.

But couldn't that go for any cut down, racer, chopper, or other modified vintage scooter that changes the way they came from the factory?

having done extensive work on bajaj's i can say they look really simmaliar in head design and ignition carb, ect. the flywheel looks different and it the stella must have more power cause a bjaj will cruise all day at 55 but it won't really hit 60. when i worked for vespa hartford i blew up my vbb on the highway and borrowed a shop bjaj for a week. they are wicked ugly but it chugged along nice and smooth. they are pretty bulletproof probably on account of the fact that the cylinder and head is undeniably honda in its origin.

i dunno, i don't see anything wrong with trying to improve the looks of a bajaj with piaggio parts or mods. i mean, those horncasts are dead ugly, but i wouldn't try to rebadge it or anything to "fool" someone, but i guess it doesn't really matter.

i've seen a couple where they taped off the turn signal wings and painted the horncast a contrasting color to give the illusion of a separate piece. funny thing is, if that god ugly horncast was some ultra rare original accessory from piaggio or utah in the 70's or 80's, someone would shell out big cheese for their p series.

ride what you like, and make it look however you want.

Nah, it's more like making vegetarian "meatballs".
I had one for several years, and yup, it was bulletproof. If you like what it does for you but think it's ugly, why not make it into something you can stand looking at?
