well I finally got around to installing my HID bulbs today and this forum post was invaluable to me as a visual aid to getting it done. only ran into one hiccup when I was installing the disconnects to the high bulb wasn't able to attach easily( due to wires on that bulb being much shorter) my way around this was to splice in a couple if inches of 14 gauge wire to the lead wires for that side once done was smooth sailing got them in buttoned up front end took a short ride to test once sun when down
Thanks again Zinfan for the walk through

Dual low and highs
Sold my G37s and purchased a used MP3 400 with only 650 miles. Now I'm itching to mod it. Anyone knows what would be involved in doing a dual low & high beams? I'm certain I'd need dual filament/Bi HID bulbs, but cant seem to find any in my H1 size. Help is appreciated.

LOL...I was serious considering the front Fuoco conversion, but decided to get a 500 of my own and give the 400 to my wife...now to convince her...

I am in anticipation of getting a 250 and based on your picture tutorial I think even I could handle this mod all by myself without any help from the man of the house!!! Thanks for all the GREAT detail pics!!!! Sue

Is there a picture of them on at night. Would like to see the actual beam on the road.

Thanks.

I've been running a HiD headlight conversion, combined with the "two headlights" switch mod for at least a year with no issues, until now.

A week ago I noticed that the high beam was no longer working. Then, minutes later, the electrical system went haywire. All the dash lights lit up, the tilt lock was flashing, and the rev limiter kicked in. I limped it into a parking lot and let it sit for a minute on the jack stands (the tilt lock would not engage).

Eventually, I got it going again and found that it ran ok as long as the light switch was in the low beam position. Switch on the high beam and the system goes berserk again.

I checked the battery...12.4 volts at idle and 14.5 volts at 4000 rpm. I replaced the battery anyway, but the problem persists.

Any ideas? A short in the high beam circuit maybe?

Could be or your switch it self.
I would disconnect the high beam connectors from the bulbs and check to see if the problem still exists when you hit the high beam switch, If the problem goes away then your problem is most likely a faulty bulb (shorting out) which is causing a major power draw. If its still a problem then check your switch otherwise I would say its a short circuit in the high beam circuit.

I would check you wiring for the two lights on. Sounds like you have a short there in that wiring. Convert it back to the normal setup and see if the problem persists with the normal one light factory setup.

Perfect timing I just noticed that my low beam was out. So following your very detailed instructions I attempted to change the bulb myself. Bought the same bulb that was stock so I figured how hard could it be. Took my iPad out to the garage and started. All was going good to start but I think I took out too many screws but I finally got to the part to pull out the old bulb and put in the new. Could not get the old bulb out of the holder. Gave it one more big tug and it broke off inside the holder. It was getting late so I decided to tape of the holder and put the parts back together. Problem now is I don't remember which screw goes where. Got it all back together with 5 screws still on the floor. Put the 5 screws and new bulb in plastic baggie to bring to the dealer. He's not going to be happy with me again

Thanks for all the helpful ideas! Just a follow-up to my earlier post...

I was able to determine that the problem was in the high beam HiD assembly, probably the transformer. I'm not sure if it was a short cirucuit (which you would think would have burned a fuse) or in the bulb itself.

I didn't want to swap parts with the low-beam assembly to hunt down the exact problem part because I didn't want to risk damage to the scooter electronics and the HiD sets come as a complete assembly anyway. I've already ordered a replacement kit...$30 post-paid on ebay. Let's hope these Chinese parts fare better than the old Chinese parts!

I think I'm going to remove the "two lights on conversion" at the same time (essentially, reattaching the spring in the switch). I'm not sure that the voltage surge from having both HiD lights come on at the same time is good for the electrical system. You can hear the "pop" as the lights come on, and occasionally the ignition does a hiccup at the same time due to the voltage spike. That can't be a good thing, particularly when one light goes on right after the other.

None the less, I love the HiD lights. MUCH brighter than stock, and a real safety plus.

I followed the exact instructions posting on this thread during installation. They were spot-on and very helpful!
