I have a couple of cheap pairs and they are crap. Lots of distortion and easily scratched. I wear Vuarnet Cateyes and Rx glacier glasses from Opticus by day. Would prefer a clear safety glass that wouldn't scratch as easy as the plastic I've tried. I do NOT want a a pair of goggles, I prefer a sold bow. Ideas?

Go to a Harley dealer and check out their choices. They ride with glasses/goggles a lot and there are special ones that are strongly curved and have a foam "gasket" to keep wind and trash out of your eyes. I have a pair of "PanOptics" brand which are a little pricy but very good.
There are some pretty good safety glasses out there to in grey, yellow or clear. They work very well with open helmets. Try Home Depot or Lowes. |

Both my with and dad got a really nice pair of riding glasses from Pearl Vision. They are transitions and work really well. If you don't need the Rx, you can just by them off the shelf to use. They were a little less $ than the Panoptics. This was a couple years ago, so not sure if all stores still carry them, but worth a shot.

I got two good and not expensive pairs of shooting glasses from Gander Mountain that have no distortion and hold up pretty well riding in the pet carrier or behind the windscreen. One in yellow and one clear.

No one seems to sell "safety glass" glasses anymore, your best bet is probably a quality brand, with polycarbonate lenses |

I can get clear safety glasses from here at the plant whenever I need them. I don't ride much at night so I just keep a pair tucked in the front storage.
When they get scratched I throw them away and get a new pair. Don't know how much they're costing the plant but it can't be much. They've also got tinted ones but I like the look of a Ray Ban knock off from the Sunglass Warehouse. I'm riding behind a Vespa large windscreeen "the shower door" so I'm not to worried about something smacking me. |

The other day, I had an enormo-bug fly in from the side and put a substantial nick in my faceshield It looked like it might have been one of our lovely Palmetto Bugs (we're talking 2" flying cockroach, here) but I was too freaked out to be sure |

Dillon Precision Products (www.bluepress.com) has polycarbonate Bomber Glasses in clear and a range of colors for only $9.99. I've worn them for years; they provide good protection and they're inexpensive to replace.

Well I do wear a full face helmet when I'm out riding on the highways and byways. With sunglasses under the face shield.
So I've got triple protection. Tall Windscreen, full face shield and sunglasses |

This is a great source for riding glasses with dark, yellow, or clear lenses at very reasonable prices.

Smith Optics
I like really high quality sunglasses and have found Smith Optics to be great! Many of their styles come with interchangeable lenses... so you can have dark glasses, yellow, clear, whichever you want.
And they have a LIFETIME WARRANTY! I had a pair for over 10 years and a rubber piece came loose, I sent them in they just gave me the full purchase price credit towards a new pair! I chose this as my new pair: http://www.smithoptics.com/products/#/Evolve/Evolve+Sunglasses/Redline+Max/view/ (I still can't figure out how to imbed the photo) They fit great under my helmet and are light and very comfortable! I can also buy other lenses to suit my needs. I love Smith products! (not cheap, but worth the price, in my opinion) |

I saw this post yesterday but didn't have time to reply. I "vespa'ed" to San Jose Airport yesterday morning from Santa Cruz (about 35 miles) to go down to LA for the day. It was dark when I left and I took the freeway. I wanted some eye protection and I don't like the visor down (it makes the wind noise louder) so I took my Oakley M-Frame sweep yellow glasses that I wear for road bicycling. They were perfect!! Even at 70 mph, when I stuck my head above the windscreen, there was no wind on my eyes. No tearing and no dirt. The M-Frame have replaceable lenses. I have two pair: yellow for our foggy/overcast mornings and a dark lens for sunny days. I only wear them cycling and think they would scratch easy if you didn't take care of them. (Sorry for the monster image.)

I wear safety glasses from work, They are free, What can I say.
They are the KleenGuard V20, Made by Kimberly Clark. They come in Polarized, Amber and Clear, Also the arms fit flat inside the helmet. If you sweat a lot, They will fog up, So don't sweat a lot or breathe through your eyes. ![]() |

Great leads, Thanks all!
I REALLY like my Vuarnets, the lenses last for years, years of fairly brutal treatment. I've tried some inexpensive safety glasses, but it seems that every time I go for a pair the lenses are trashed or annoyingly distorted. Apparently there are numerous grades of polycarbonate? Found some Smith's deeply discounted....the search continues. Will try them on in Mpls. next week. Thanks to this thread I know a lot more than when I began. Thanks again! |

Second the vote for Smith glasses. Readily available in good ski shops.
Various models have interchangeable lens colors. I am not sure of my model but they are the most comfortable / well fitted sunglasses I have ever used (have used Ray Bans, Maui Jims, and Vaurnets and I think Smiths are the most "wearable". They might have lower end models that don't measure up as well - I don't know. Mine were about 140.) Come with a dark brown.grey(typical sunglass color) a very light grey(almost clear - I often use at night) and a high def. yellow lenses. Lenses all store in pockets inside the glasses case and change out super quick - much more convenient than carrying 2 face shields around. |
