Hi,

I was trying to replace my PX clutch cable (outer) by gaffer taping the new one on the end of the old one and trying to pull it through so it follows the path of the old cable as it is removed. Unfortunately the cable got snagged and the gaffer tape gave way an I have managed to remove the old cable completely and the the one I'm trying to replace it with wont feed through.

Can anyone tell me how to get the clutch cable back in?

thanks

Gav

Hello

If you look at the top end of the clutch outer you will find a flange that some times causes problems when pulling a new outer through, this is the way I do mine (if the outer is completely shagged), remove the inner and pull the lower end of the outer out of the adjuster, now check that the ferrule has not come off the cable and jammed in the adjuster.
Remove the horn cast (one screw behind piaggio badge and two inside glove box) support horn cast and remove two wires from horn.
Assuming you have already taken the headset top off, proceed as follows

Grease new inner and replace in new outer, on old cable cut off upper flange, tape old outer to lower end of new outer and pull gently through the headset lower, behind horncast bars (apparent when opened up) and through lower part of the bodywork (grommets), if the cables seperate, push through a wire coat hanger and tape that to the new outer.

Sounds long winded but takes about an hour.

Now is the time to replace the throttle cable. (the same way).

Good luck

I know for a fact this is already on here but for the nubes and those to lazy to search this is the best way to change an outer
(to the O.P. its too late for you but there's always next time.)
Go to home depot buy about 15' of 1/16" cable run it through your new outer and put a cable clamp on the end of it. run the end with no clamp through your old outer, once the cable is through both your new outer and the one still in your scooter pull it until it pulls the old one into place as you pull the old one out. I did this a couple weeks ago and the whole operation took 7 minutes you will want to kick yourself in the junk for not thinking of this sooner.

Now have a beer and revel in the fact that you and macgyver have something on common.

I made the mistake of pulling both the inner and outer of my clutch cable. I can't feed it through the headset down to the bottom cable opening on the body. What can I do!?

Try a length of picture wire or the extra long throttle cable.

Pull the headset, pull the horn and pull the tank. I've used string trimmer line and gone through the spare tire carrier bolt hole on the inside of the leg shield. One up to the headset or horn area, one down to the tank, left a big loop and when I had both ends gave it a yank to get the loop through the bolt hole.

So you're running two "string trimmer lines", one down the headset and one through the tank? Kinda confused here lol

Nope. Take one end....through the bolt hole in the legshield and up to the horn up to the headset. Take the other end...down through the same bolt hole...keep feeding until it pops out into the tank area. Once you have both ends...one at the headset and one at the tank yank on bothe ends to get the loop to pull through the bolt hole.

I think this was on my GL or maybe my GT...I only did this once when I couldn't get a cable fished through any other way...I kept hitting something at the curve into the frame and I tried many many many many many many times. Going through the bolt hole was a..."well...nothing else is working...might as well try this". For some reason...and I don't have a clue why...going this way allowed the line to make it through the curve.

No spare carrier holes on a PX On a P200 I had to replace the green ground wire and removed the horn cast. It was a pretty easy fish down to the tank area and up to the headset.

On second thought that was to run the SIP speedo CHT and tach leads but I also pulled through a green ground.
