hi all,

again, i appologise in advance if this is a frequently harped upon topic...
i want to order the sito plus for my px 200, but there is always one hick-up whenever reading about this otherwise flawless exhaust. the clearance on the left-hand side when cornering. can anyone who actually has this pipe mounted on a p-series give me any feedback as to how bad it really is?? 90% of the time i am riding two-up and i like to lean into my turns. is there a real danger of the exhaust clipping and sliding out in a turn? the only alternative i was considering was the sip sport, which doesn't have the clearance issues, but has been out of stock in the sip online store for months... does anyone know of another web-based store that may stock this exhaust, as far as i know only sip stocks sip?? any advice will be greatly appreciated.

kind regards,

wesley

I installed one a couple of months ago and solo its fine. I have yet to clip it on a turn. 2 up is another story altogether. Wife and I tip the scales at close to 400 lbs combined which really works the suspension and subsequently I scape the pipe on turns quite often.

Speed bumps also cause an issue. I haven't clipped hard enough on a turn to cause a washout but I seldom turn that hard when the wife is on board anyway.

best of luck

I'd be inclined to rock stiffer shocks at 400lb load with Sito + clearance issues.

They are on the list. Along with tubeless tires, a better front brake and a full 12volt conversion. Baby steps because it is a long list.

Having said that, the Sito+ replaced the Leo Vince that came with the bike. Definitely a good swap. Better sound, better acceleration and it holds the hills much better, no small consideration at 7000 ft ASL. Make the swap and take care in the left hand turns. No NASCAR for you Mr.

I'm 220 and haven't had any issues, but I don't ride two up on it (that's what my BMW is for).

Only thing to be aware of the sound from the Sito+ is a bit more like a loud popcorn popper. It's not bad, but occassionally I miss the quiet stock exhaust.

Sito+ shouldn't be a problem on a P. There might be problems on the vintage vespas, but not the P.

PEP-parts.de has some nice alternatives to the SITO+

I have one on my P 200 I've never had a prob. Even w/ 2 up. It's a nice small upgrade that just allows the bike to breath better.
The sound isn't that loud it's more of a 2t, puc- puc sound rather then the purr sound. P series scoots are higher then say a Rally or later . That's where you have to take care in cornering. But so what if you scape it's just a pipe.

I have a 1978 p200e and it only scraps two up. Not all the time, but even with bitubo shock on rear it scraps as i tend to lean normally.
I do need to tighten up the bittubo spring when i ride 2 up but it still scraps.
Never had it want to wash out, when you hear the scraping you tend to straighten up quite quickly. Mind has actually banged hard a few times rather than scrap, but i tend now to make easy left turns and lean more on right turns when riding double.
I do like the sound and performance on the sitoplus, it came with the scoot when i bought it.

Do read about the challenges once you depart the world of 100% stock- the Sito+ does require you to up jet, which while simple in concept can set you on a search of the perfect jetting combination.

Do it if you will, but consider that many of us are now constantly playing with main jets, atomizers, low speed adjustment screws, etc to optimize the Sito+. Thus begins the process of taking basic transportation and turning it into a tinkering excercise.

hey dabears, thanks for your input. i am going to drill the airfilter and mount the sito. as this will provide even more air, i'm gonna upjet to 122 to play it safe, do a plug chop, then maybe move down to a 120. does this sound good to you?

A significant majority of the "maintenance" on a shifty Vespa is pure and simple voluntary tinkering. A significant portion of the remaining "maintenance" is as a direct result of that voluntary tinkering.

wesleyhannam- I think most here would suggest that a 2 size bump up from stock should suffice. So from 116 to 118. I tried this and found it was not effective, but then as I have pointed out I found other things along the way that have required messing around-

My particular P200 came with a 24/24, but had the restricted block under the airbox as well as a smaller opening in the airbox itself. This leads me to believe someone slapped the 24/24 on after the fact but made no other mods. I've opened up the airbox and removed the plate, but found mine runs much much better with a 120 Main. I have also found that I have a BE4 atomizer, and it seems that most folks like the BE3 better, so I've ordered one of those as well.

So to my original point with my experience and that of those on MV who constantly fret about jet size- once you start changing stuff, you will keep asking yourself what it would be like if you did "whatever". If you want to turn transporation into a hobby- putting on the Sito+ may start you down the slippery slope- just saying.

Solo you'll be fine; 2up you'll scrape from time to time. Just get yourself some muffler paint. Those things rust like hell, so you'll need to repaint it within the first year anyway. I love the way it sounds and performs, though.

I just put a sito on my p125x that was converted to a 150. The bike has a little more low end and still runs great with no rubbing issues. I had to move my kick stand spring on a anlgle to clear the pipe but that was it. Also helps to let the air out of the rear tire to get the hanger bolt in and out w/o removing the rear wheel.

Cheers
