Hi guys,

As stated in a previous post I have bought a 2004 GT 125 L here in London.
I've so far bought only a vespa half windscreen which cuts through the wind nicely, but am no noticing that there are some things that need replacing on it, such as;

- stock exhaust is rusted and has holes, Leo vince upgrade? I've been quoted £220, can I get it cheaper anywhere? I understand they are not hard to fit is this correct? Do you need to do anything to the engine after you fit one?

- Due to it being in an accident previously, there's a big crack in the glove box and 2 score marks in the floorboard. I've been quoted £250 for a new glove box, but can you get 2nd hand spares anywhere in the UK?

- I've not had the engine serviced (It seems to be running fine though) but was wondering if I can do this all myself. I'm sure it's just oil and filter changes right?

- I've lately been running it on premium unleaded. Is this a bad thing? It seems to be running better.

- I need 2 new tyres and have been quoted £159 fitted for 2 new michelin city grips, which I think is a little extortionate. What do you think?

I've also been trying to find a top box, but having no luck for under £170. Can anyone recommend anywhere cheaper?

Is there anything else that you would recommend I should do to this bike?

I'll post pic's later.

Sounds a bit pricey - new tyres should be less than 120 fitted, try
www.fwr.co.uk - 330 Kennington Road, SE11 - just got a Pirelli GTS23 and I reckon they are better than the Michelins.
Chas bikes -- http://www.chasbikes.co.uk/ -- are cheap and you can get your oil, filters plugs etc, and any servicing.

Battersea? Are you using a main agent?

You should be able to get two tyres fitted for £100 - £120 (michelins)

Servicing- don't forget the transmission. Go east for cheaper servicing. Kings X scooters perhaps or Scootech. You'll be half an hour out of your area but the labour will have fallen to £40 +VAT an hour. Oh and that trip to Scootech might yield results, they have plenty of used bits in the workshop, including gloveboxes. Not the Clerkenwell Branch but the E3 one.

I fitted the Leo vince 4road to my gt125 and am very pleased!had a little trouble with the manifold stud nuts being rusted but nothing a little engine-uity(ha!) and wd-40 couldn't solve.some people believe that after fitting you should disconnect the battery for a 1/2 an hour, some don't. This is to reset the ECU. £200 from Bens bikes, belvedere.

If it is a 2004 I would have thought it would be a carburettor model. So no need to do anything after fitting the exhaust.

In terms of servicing, if you want to give a nice service you will be looking at doing the following

Oil and filter change

Transmission oil change (is a one time use copper washer so make sure to have another before doing)

Belt and rollers change (will involve removing the variator, which is a one time use nut)

Air filter clean

Carburettor clean (total overhaul probably not needed, but take the cap off and get some carb cleaner down there)

Spark plug change

There's guides on here on how to any of these tasks, Need any help feel free to pm me I also own a gt 125. Doing the above will get the bike running on top form performance wise.

Best thing for a GT125 is an Italian tune-up --- ride to brighton and back with the throttle full open !!! She'll run sweet !!
