I've already received two of the washers... my plan is to eventually buy a JCosta variator and install them all at once.

My question is: should I install 1 or 2 washers?

I've read a lot of the past posts, but I'm still not clear about what to install, since I've seen some only do 1mm, while others have had as much as 3mm?

I have a 2008 MP3 500 with the original belt, so I'm not sure if the rubbing issue some have experienced will affect me if I go with two...

I only want to have to do this once, so I'd just as soon do it "right" the first time.

Oh, BTW I either ride in-town or low-speed highway in the Rocky Mountains, so "top speed" reduction isn't really an issue for me. I'm looking for the better acceleration and pull up hills.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Quite a few people like using both washers which is equivalent to Fuzzy's original experiments. The reason the precision Fuzzy Washer came about was because the theory was 1mm is optimum. So - I went to using only one washer and am very happy with it. Not sure how many folks use 2 - which definitely gives you that kick in the butt acceleration. The rubbing point is easy to take care of with a couple of strokes with a file - look for my post way back when where I have pics of the rubbed area. When you take the tranny cover off you'll see a curved piece of aluminum at the rear.

Sorry for this question (I've try to search but didn't find simple answer).

This is diagram of Fuoco 500 (MP3500):

let me help clarify on the fuzzy.

The stock washer is 2mm
The fuzzy is 1mm

You always leave the stock washer in place and you only add 1 fuzzy or 2 depending on who much umph you want. Most are happy with 1 fuzzy for a total of 3mm, I know luthorhuss has a total of 4mm in his.

Will post a pic of location in a few.
in this thread J COSTA INSTALL - MP3 400 - with pictures the 11th pic down you will see the stock 2mm washer.

Thank you for clarifying !
If I understood correctly fuzzy washer goes with washer No.7 (on a 3mm setup) which is incorrectly positioned on a drawing because it's behind outer variator pulley (No.6) ?

Yeah - basically when you slide the variator pulley half off pay attention to the order of the washers on the outside. On the inside you'll se the stock washer - the Fuzzy goes right next to it.

Prepare for grins! Good Lord willin I hope to be there with y'all. Plans are still mushy but I'm optimistic. If I do I'll be coming through Nashville next Wednesday, stay the night, head over towards Dirt's place Thursday. Meander along til I get somewhere - I plan on camping so I have to figure where to put everything.

bring it on Jon. If you only plan on bringing camping gear for the weekend save your packing as I have a tent and sleeping bag here you can use.

Thanks Doug but once I'm on the road who knows where it'll take me. Might go down the coast then across to Orlando and bug my daughters.

Gonna to to Pay Pal and order two today for my MP3 250... the only thing the 250 lacks is acceleration.... Ponydrvr is my tech man.... he's already got his...
In my mind, fuzzy washers were the mops you attached to windshield wipers... but... then... just in time... I remember... there ARE NO windshield wipers on an MP3 .... Ponydrvr explained them to us at the last gathering...
I'm excited to get them! I hope you have some left, if you don't, send me some with the next shipment that comes in. Thanks!

BVQ I don't think the Fuzzy washer is used on a 250. When I changed my belt and rollers last week I just added another stock washer. Not sure if it is washer or the Dr. Pulleys but I noticed a faster and smoother acceleration. Feels new again. Oh I guess the new belt maybe is helping with that too.

Yup - Sticky's right - with the 250 your only option is doubling up the stock washer as they are physically different sizes. But that's not a bad thing - it so happens that the stock 250 washer is the optimal thickness of 1mm. So go to Athens Scooter and order a stock replacement and double your riding fun!

Arrived yesterday, thank you !

Today I've installed washer and overall feeling is that engine works smoother on low speed, rpm are little higher than before and top speed is now about 5 km/h slower than before. But overall impression was great...until tonight when I finally found some time to analyze video recording of both setups and conclusion is - same acceleration with or without washer on setup with 16g Malossi rollers

This washer from BubbaJon won't fit the 250ie engine. You need to buy an extra stock washer and just double up for the 250. Good news is stock washer is less expensive with mass production.

Just hold it a little while and it will appreciate in value. As soon as BubbJon runs out people will start asking where they can get one. BubbJon won't get any more made until there is enough backlog of demand to justify getting a production run going. For the interim you will have a sellers market.

No big deal - we have 2 choices here. I can send you the two washers or I can refund your money and you can reorder just one. PayPal doesn't do partial refunds - it's an all or nothing proposition. Send me a PM to tell me how you want to handle it.

OK, so it fits 400cc engine on my X8.

My X8 400cc is quite sluggish off the line and I want to change it.

First two days of tests with one fuzzy washer showed, that there may be a slight improvement.

It feels better, because engine is revving a bit higher, but I did some measurements and the difference is very small. The results are very similar to results that I achieved with 16g Pulleys, but with Pulleys engine revved much higher (which was annoying).

Best results for 0 to 100kph and 1/4mile:
Stock: 12.5s, 18.6s
16g Pulleys: 11.6s, 18.1s
Single fuzzy washer: 11.5s, 18.1s

It was not measured with stopwatch looking at the speedo, but with dedicated app using GPS (RaceChrono for Nokia).

I was considering what Maksor wrote in one of his previous posts - he wrote that his engine was running on the lean side (due to Euro3 restrictions, I suppose) and after some tuning on a dyno he gained several HP. I believe this is one of the main reasons for this sluggishness at the start and I will look for a cheap way to modify this.

A request for a couple of the buyers - a couple of y'all have non-MP3's. Can you post here what scoots you put the Fuzzy Washer on and how well it worked for you? Thanks!
Received mine today, thanks! I will try them on X8 400ie, but I´m starting my vacation tomorrow and will report not earlier than in the end of September.
OK, so it fits 400cc engine on my X8.

acheap way is to remove the very restrictive air box and install a aftermarket air filter. This lets it Breathe so much better.
Also install the Fuzzy washer with the Dr pully sliders and you will see a better improvement. You can also go from the stock 2mm and 1mm washer to a total of 4mm which some folks like as well.

Well, I won't remove original airbox because I have to ride in any weather.

I will try the second washer and Pulleys of course

what difference will that make. The stock airbox has a hole in it to let in the air. Water can get in at that hole even though it is the diameter of a finger. this is why it is choking the air flow off to the scooter. Why installing a aftermarket air filter you immediatly jump up to the diameter of the intake tube itself of approximately 44mm. A filter housing can be made or purchased to reduce the amount of rain you may get in. installing a X-9 hugger helps the most in keeping debris and water away form the filter area. Highly reccommended even if you don't do a air filter mod.

I agree with Mr. Dirt. With stock set up I got a lot of water in my air box riding through puddles. A rear hugger made a huge improvement and also makes filter replacement doable for all weather.

It is possible to have a K&N filter that is for all weather riding. I rode with this one in rain that was measured in multiple inches per hour and several inches of flooding on the streets I was riding through.

There are several threads with different takes on how to accomplish this. Here is mine. Failed Air Filter Mod - Success a week later
