Modern Vespa

I cannot seem to find any threads, where anyone else, has had a problem, with the steel. Does anyone know of a thread?

It is too early to say what has happened, but my supplier, for the J. Costa Variator, is moving very quickly, to take care of my problem. No damage has been done, to my MP-3. Sure is a good idea, to get those scooters, in for service, when it is time. I drove it in, for service (about 55 miles) and it ran perfectly.

What is the issue? not stated above?

I won't see it, until tomorrow. The mechanic said, that the steel portion (the part that goes in first) was shattered. I will get pictures, tomorrow. The aluminum portion, is ok. Should have waited until I had the chance to see it, to start a post. The J. Costa Variator, has been a great addition, to my MP-3.

Sounds like the Bell has cracked like Jim C's did, it bet it is the early type black one. The new type are Stainless Steel.

You are right-on. Cracks originated from all four holes and the bell was very close to coming apart. I wish it was not going to take a month to get the replacement (holiday in Spain).

Put the OEM back in the meanwhile, or maybe you did that already?

Put some Dr Pulley sliders in and a Fuzzy Washer and you may not miss the J-Costa that much.

Then, I would have to pay to have the J. Costa, installed, when the bell gets here. If I did the work, myself, it would definitely make sense. I do have the OEM one. Maybe, I should learn how, since a disaster, was avoided this time, by an alert mechanic. We need to keep an eye on these 8,000 RPM Time bombs.

Yours is the old model right?? If it is the new one we all need to know about it, but otherwise it is a known issue.
I am guessing Spain slacks off ( if it does) in August like Italy, to avoid the heat, so maybe you won't have a month to wait, just a couple weeks.
At any rate, hope it is back on the road soon.

Yes, it is the old one. It should have been recalled. I should have paid more attention to the warning on this forum. My baby has been a "perfect" machine. Will be more hesitant in the future to make performance mods. I would buy a MP-3 400, again.

More about the 10,000 mile service. Front brakes were 50% and rear were 75%. I have never had, to do brakes. The valve adjustment, was perfect. Nothing had to been changed.

Hey Cliff - I have all the tools dude. We can get together and do the grease job at the same time. All I ask is some moving cool air and a brew or two.
I even have a set of sliders if the size is the same for the 500 and the 400. If you like 'em you can buy me a replacement set.

I am having trouble locating my rollers for the OEM Variator. Fan and brew -- no problem

Dr Pulley size is the same, but weight is lighter for 400.

Picked it up today with OEM variator back on it. Can't wait to get J. Costa, reinstalled.
