Yeah, it's pretty much that simple. But if it's got autolube and you've got an oil tank, then why not use it? (says the guy that has more premix scoots than non)

autolube = better than premix unless you are doing some special tuning.

To deactivate the autolube properly, you need to remove the autolube drive gear which runs between the autolube system in the airbox to the main casings. Remove the airbox, and it should wiggle out. If you don't remove this gear, then the autolube device will be chugging away sans 2T oil and will burn itself out. All the gearing in there and the pump device use the 2T passing through as lube.

How often does one of these autolube pumps fail?
I've had mine apart- it basically consists of a gear shaft with a solid disk that spins. How in the world would one of these ever fail?

Seems like you have a greater risk of messing up your engine by miscalculating the gas/oil ratios then of having these pumps fail.

That and the fact that you don't have to mix the darn oil yourself. I started running auto injection bikes since 1973, and have never had an oil issue. Seems like moving backwards to mix it yourself... or getting rid of those new fangled CDIs to get points and condensers....

I've been hearing about people buying one of the last PX motors for 10 years, maybe they mean one of the last 3000!

Seriously though, why not use the autolube? Do you think you're smarter than the engineers that designed it? If your scooter is already running oil injection, keep it.

In 28 years of riding Vespas I have never seen a properly maintained P series injector fail. It's always some other issue/modification that causes a seize.

i have been waiting to get a crate px200 motor for awhile now. The truth is there really is only less then a handful of px200 engines in the US. americanscootercenter has 0 left sip only has half complete cases that you have to build up. scooterworks has 0 scootershop can order from italy and scooterwest has 2 left. unless there are some other places that i have not found then yeah this might actually be the last of them now that they dont even make the px200 in italy anymore they are not making any new ones so whats left is it. This has been confirmed by many scooter shops any many builders. I asked alot of people thats why i didnt think it was a good idea to wait any longer.

Retardo question asked for the bazillionth time no doubt, will this fit a pre P series without the use of 8 foot long pry bars and a smoke wrench?

but why did you seize? Most times it's another issue that causes it, lean jetting, advanced timing or lack of lubrication due to operator error as in not filling the oil tank or using certain oils that are not made for autolube systems
