They both use the same body and the same engine. The GTV has the headlight on the front fender and does not have a plastic cover over the handlebars to give it a retro-look. The GTV also has a leather, two piece seat. The instruments are also different and the GTV has chrome wheels. But the mechanics and basic body are identical. We have one of each.

The basic scooters are the same. Style and accessories are in the eye of the beholder so you pick. (In my opinion, the difference in cost is mostly driven by that beautiful 2-piece leather seat on the GTV. Some people like it it, some don't. Try it and be sure you do.)

Yea, difference is just cosmetic style thing. Choose what catches your eye - they will perform the same.

If you are over 6', you will most likely need to have a GTS seat regardless of whether you choose the GTV or GTS.

The GTV seat does not allow you to scoot far enough back from the handlebars to be comfortable if you are tall.

Not true in all cases, but this is true as a general rule.

It's Portofino, and have you seen it close up? The metallic portion is gold and quite beautiful.

I just passed your 50cc scooter three times while typing this. Razz emoticon

While I admire the style and classy look of a GTV, I think that the seat on the GTS is far superior due to the fact that you can move yourself around on it more. This reduces rider fatigue on longer trips. If you plan on doing any touring with the GTV or are a taller guy, the GTS will suit you better, or buying a GTS seat to put on the GTV would also work.

The other obvious difference, which some of the owners of both could perhaps comment on, is the difference in height of the two headlights.
Do you get better visibility at night with the light mounted higher, as on the GTS, or lower, as on the GTV?

All about the looks and which one catches your eye. You can always pick up a GTS seat cheap if you find the GTV seat doesn't cut it for you. Good luck and post some pics when you get one.

They all look better in person than online...
I remember thinking I didn't care what vespa i got, so long as it wasn't the tan GTV, but in person i think it kicks ass.
I'm not sure how much of a difference the headlight height makes, it's no more than the difference between a car's and a small suv's lights, but i know it's been mentioned here before. Plus the girls say they like my GTV because it looks classic, but they're probably just figuring out clever ways to complement me right..? I'd say get a new chocolate GTV 300, and replace the stock saddle with a tan ostrich-hide one.

Frankly, I believe the headlight height is a non-issue.

It's the same height as my car headlight (and most all other "car-like" autos for that matter. It illuminates the road and your surroundings quite well.

Many people argue that that cagers can't see you as well when you are behind them at a light, and my belief is that if you are relying on them to see you in the center mirror vs. the side mirrors, you are probably not stopped in the optimal area for an emergency escape.

I'm much more concerned about the people behind me at a light than I am the guy in front of me suddenly throwing it in reverse and gunning it.

Although yesterday i almost backed my race bike into the car behind me. On a hill with my broken left foot, so i had to plant on my right (no rear brake) blah blah. Course if it had mirrors or break lights (or was in any way licensed) that might have helped too...

I installed headlight modulators on all of our PTW's. Interestingly enough, the GTV is almost twice as conspicuous when it's coming at you with the headlight modulating than the GTS. My neighbor first mentioned this when we came home from riding one day so I had my wife ride both scooters from the end of the street towards me and there was a marked difference. I don't ride in the dark on any PTW so I can't tell you if there is any difference between the GTS/GTV when riding at night.

I don't care for fenderlights, aesthetically. You can't go wrong with either if you choose one you are physically comfortable on and enjoy its appearance.

The reason I commented in the manner I did is because these threads tend to attract one or more posters with absolutely no experience riding a GTV in either light or dark soapboxing on the rubbish fenderlight and how worthless it is at both seeing and being seen.

You don't like them aesthetically, and I applaud your opinion.

The truth of the matter, they're the same scoot with different shiny bits in different locations, and will perform in an identical manner. It's all about aesthetics (save the split seat handicap for the taller folks) in this argument.

I wasn't addressing your posts Stinky - having never driven a GTV I can't comment on the utility of a fenderlight or not.

I was just addressing the original question of "what should I get" - saying what I'd go with personally, and throwing my lot in with the "it's mostly about aesthetics and whether the seat is a problem" crowd

For what it's worth, it's not the GTV styling I dislike, specifically. I don't care for the venerable Faro Basso either. It's truly just a personal preference thing... the handlebars look so lonely to me without an eye on the front

Oh, I know and I didn't take it that way.

I was just happy to have someone say that they don't like the way it looks vs. making a bunch of stuff up.

I've known too many people who have had accidents while riding a PTW after dark. Friends of mine have hit deer, possum, raccoons, skunks, etc while riding after dark (plus the errant drivers who are more apt to be drinking after work hours) and I don't want to become another statistic so I just drive my car after the sun sets. YMMV

thank you...it seems it is all cosmetic...whichever look a person likes...I have a short inseam and i usually take my motorcycle seats to be reupholstered so it lowers the seat....the GTV does look cool but i do not know if the headlight on the fender is a plus or a negative or does not matter. thanks

color is really personal....and if it is that green ( i think called seafoam, but not sure ) it is the true vintage look....the color alone says Vespa and that is a beautiful thing...I like silver, gray, i think there is a cream color...not sure about the red or yellow....and i do not think i want black....most of my motorcycles were black....but to me Black does not say Vespa. that is to me. thank you for your input it all helps

thank you...you are hitting on two good points. i also would like to know the difference in performance of the the headlights. since i am 5'7 the seat on a bike has always been a problem for me...i usually have them worked on so i can be flat footed on the ground....removing inside material and replace with a gel....the gel also keeps me comfortable on long distance rides. Soft seats are not good even though they feel like it when you first sit on it....A seat needs to be firm with just enough to prevent the bones from pressing and getting sore and then the squirming starts....The gel seemed to work very well.

I think he's just messing with you.

The GTS and GTV have the same engine. The only thing that might make the GTV "slower" is the nominal aerodynamic difference created by having the light on the fender.

Also that light, not easy to steal. It's part of the front fender. You have to take apart the fender to get at it.

Get a GTS. In midnight blue. Cause midnight blue is the fastest color available

Get the GTS, Some kid is gonna steal that fender light,
Then what will you do?

Besides the GTS is faster.

why is the GTS faster? and is it that easy to steal that light...I have not heard of that one....
thanks for the heads up
I think he's just messing with you.

Cause midnight blue is the fastest color available
thanks again....i also heard that the midnight blue also gets better gas mileage

If you are over 6', you will most likely need to have a GTS seat regardless of whether you choose the GTV or GTS.

The GTV seat does not allow you to scoot far enough back from the handlebars to be comfortable if you are tall.

Not true in all cases, but this is true as a general rule.
i have a short inseam...i am 5'7 and i usually get my motorcycle seats reupholstered to get me flat footed on the ground. I guess i do not have to worry about scooting further back on the seat....I just like to sit comfortably and be able to have both feet flat on the ground when i need it.
Although I cannot speak to the "distance to the ground" factor, at that height you should have no issues with the GTV saddle in terms of "distance from the handlebars."

I'm 6'2", and i was miserable on my GTV seat. Swapped it out with a GTS seat and all is good.
