Looking back on all the years I've been riding both in the dirt and on the road. It think I might have gotten maybe one flat tire. In 30+ yrs.
Has anybody actualy been baled out by the Vespa spare

I know its not the best idea, but I dont even carry the tools with me to change it, so I am screwed anyways.

Had to use mine just this week in fact. I have ran over nails in both my front and rear tire. Rear tire is a pain to change on the side of the road unless you have the rear jack stand that Scooterwest sells.

Yes. Too bad the new ones don't have spares, but the rear would be hard to change along side the road for sure.

On the other hand one of my friends get's an impressive number of flats, I think he's had two or three this year alone. |

I use my spare all the time... as a counterbalance for the engine
I wouldn't think of traveling far without it or the tools to change it though. Bad things happen when you are least prepared. |

Just last week and I've only been riding the thing for a couple weeks. Had a flat rear tire about a half mile from my house. Pulled over and was pissed about the thought of pushing it home. Then I remembered I had a spare.
Flopped the bike on its right side in the grass (rusted dented bike) and within ten minutes I was on my way again. Used my handy 11/13/sparkplug wrench to change it. I've been riding motorcycles for 30 years and this is the first time I ever flatted on a bike and had the spare tire and the ability to change it. Very cool. I haven't checked the damage yet but more than likely I pinched the tube when I changed the tubes and tires a couple days earlier. It lost air real fast when it let loose. BTW... awesome deal from Scootermercato on tires, rims and tubes. Chuck |

I like having built in redundancy (spare tire) on my scoot. I like having built in redundancy (spare tire) on my scoot.

A few times. Once on an organized ride with a new girlfriend on back. She was amazed to see the tire swapped out in under 10 minutes and I said (internally) "if you're impressed with that imagine what else I can do in 10 minutes"

Well... I guess I spoke to soon. I was riding back down the valley and the tread started coming off the OG Perlli rear tire. 3300k on it not bad for a 30 yr. Old tire.

If it is all original and you want to preserve that, then keep the OG tires and rims, buy a new set of rims and rock that while using the bike and only set them up with the OG for show. Then again, I usually need to use a spare on a bike once-twice a year so maybe your method (1 out of 30) is actually better! -Luigi |
