Ok nI picked up my 200 on mon...have been noodling around and am wondering about the keys.....It came with 2 keys...a blue one and one that I was thinking was the brown/red color....well last nite I realizzed that the 2 keys are cut differently....and the blue key does NOT open the top case only the brown-ish almost black one does...
now did I get my scoot with only the blue ignition key and a BLACK key for my top case?
this might suck.......

one thing the 70+y.o. fella I got it from is friend with the original owner so I may be spending him a visit....I also did not get a key card....but from what I have read, it is kind of worthless here in the US....

Kind of sounds like it. My Red/Brown key is definately Red/Brown. My black key is definately black and only opens the top case.

The blue one and brown ones should match in the way they are cut. The black key is for Vespa brand topcases. You should actually have three keys if you have a Vespa topcase.

The red/brown key (if that's what you actually have) is the master key. Do not lose it! Put it in a safe place in case you ever have to re-program the CDI/immobilizer ignition. It should be a much fatter key than the blue key. The blue key is the main key that you should use to start the scooter. The lock for the topcase is a separate lock but can be keyed to match the blue key. If it won't open wiht the blue key, he needs to give you the key for the topcase. The keycard is worthless to you and many dealers don't even bother to give them to the original owners. If he didn't give you the actual red/brown key, you need to insist that he gives it to you or $500+ for a new CDI/ignition system.

Seems that you are missing the all important reddish brown key. The blue is your regular ignition key. Since top cases are dealer installed, they are not keyed the same as your ignition and are black in color. I'm sure you've already read about why the reddish brown key can become important if you lose your blue one. Visit the seller now; if he is the original owner, theat key is in some drawer somewhere.

From his post "blue ignition key and a BLACK key for my top case"
He only has a Blue and Black key, Blue is the ignition and the black one is for his top case.

Stooter Boy: He is also describing the other key as brownish black: not black. So, I'm not sure of exactly what he has. A picture would be worth a thousand words.

yes I can...but am afraid it is black Crying or Very sad emoticon not brownish....
I did not read into it too much on the keys(as far as the top case)...and ass-umed it was a brownis and blue key...sooooo...I had just got off the phone with the chap that I got it from..he's going to look, if not contact the original owner.....I am to ring him on monday....
I did get a good deal on it $2250....so if I ~had~ it eventually replace....that would make it $2750...still not too bad a deal for an '04 with 2500mi. on it...
we shall see..(fingers crossed)..

JimH can copy (clone) your current blue key, so you have a working backup:
http://www.allmotorcyclekeys.com/
Mention Modern Vespa when you talk to him.
It's not a complete solution, but it's better than relying on a single key!

BRODY hope you get it but it's not the end of the world. If the guy doesn't have it maybe he'd give you a little money back. As others have said JIMH will cut you a spare key. You really should have a spare. Maybe i missed people actually needing/using their re/brown key at all for things all the time but i've rarely seen where people actually have had to use it. Is it important, yes if you need it but you got such a great deal if and when the time comes that you need it paying for a CDI won't be as much of a hit as it would be if you had payed top dollar for it. That's the way i'd look at it because it's out of your hands now. Sending some "finding the master key" thoughts your way. Good luck

I bought a new GTS300 from a dealer here in the UK and spent the first night turning the house upside down and emptying the rubbish bins trying to look for the keycard that I thought I had lost, only to call the dealer the next morning to be told the card is not issued with the two keys anymore as it is not needed when replacing keys.

I had a similar problem: The LX I bought for my wife came with the brown master key, but no blue keys. I bought a blue blank online for about $50 and then discovered nobody in Honolulu would cut it for less than another $50. Crying or Very sad emoticon

JimH bailed me out and cut the blue key for about the price of postage. What would we do without him?

Sweet! Glad to hear it! I keep my key card and red key in the same fire/flood safe as my passport and birth certificate, but somehow the Vespa stuff seems more important...
