Question for the SS180 owners and/or experts. I ordered a repro seat from Scooters Originali - the seat frame on the left. On the right, is the seat that came on my SS (missing cover and like two springs left on it). You can notice how different the seats are. My question, which is really for the SS? I am wondering if the one I got with the bike was actually a replacement at some point. If you look at the parts books on scooterhelp it lists the same part number for the GS and the SS which is what the new one is supposed to be a repro of. I want to be sure of the correct one so I can decide whether to refurbish the old seat. (After some more searching looks like the one on the right is correct for the SS).

Hi -

The one on the right is the correct seat for the SS.

You can get new springs and have it recovered - much better to have the original seat frame than a repro IMHO.

Plus, you have the original crosspiece spring (looks like a Sine Wave right in the middle) and that is what breaks a lot on older seats. So with the springs you are golden.

you may want to have that seat frame blasted and powder coated, to protect it for another 40 years

That's what broke on mine too. I anyone knows where to get one of those, I'd love to know.

I would like to know as well if they are made. However, I was just planning on making one. Just take a bar about the same size and get bending. Preferably around a dowel of the same diameter as the curvature of the sine wave.

If you make one, make sure you use spring steel. Otherwise, it won't hold its shape when you're done.

I made one out of what is called sinuous spring for furniture. It's not correct, but it does work. It's been in there for about 8 years. They look like this.

They're used as seat springs for furniture.
