So this is my debate.. my pops just picked this up.. he said I can have it for 600 and I gotta pay for shippping... which will be like 500... I am wondering if it would be worth it to get it out here rebuild my p2 motor and drop it in the 125.. the 125 is VERY clean and only has 220 og miles on it... Im gettting very excited....!! I just dont know what would be my best option... he is talking about parting it out.... but I dont really want to go through all the hassle again... I would rather get it out here and ride it..!!

What's wrong with the motor that's currently in the 125? There are some nice tuning options available for it.

isn't a p125x exactly the same frame as a p200e? I thought the only difference was the engine.

I've never ridden a kitted anything, but folks on here seem to love theirs, and I know with the gearing and different power bands it will ride differently from your P2 - at least it will give you variety.

Did you ever get a Sito + on your P2?

I assume you mean 4,300 miles? I had a blast rebuilding mine (I love learning how things work and fixing stuff). Just be careful when re-seating the crank with the bearings - don't just whack it in there, and use a nice torque wrench when tightening things - the soft aluminum of the casings can strip like no tomorrow when you are tightening casings bolts and the like

May want to dig around a little first. Found this thread for example:
malossi 166 or polini 177 ???????

You may just be happy with the DR, a sito and a 24mm carb.

Good to hear. I've gotta sort my light plug chop color first, but I have a lead on a cheap Sito + and was considering it. Fuel economy is secondary to my enjoyment of the scoot, but I do like to take long trips.

I bet you will be very happy with that decision - P125's have great gearing for city driving - a bigger topend on it and you will have the best of both worlds.

I've had P200s in various tunes from stock to race, and have also had several versions of tuned small block 125/150 motors from mild touring tune to reed/30mm/190cc what have you... and I would almost never recommend you scrap a 200 for a smaller engine, especially for an everyday rider.

The smooth effortless torque you can get from a 200 has no equal in the tuned 125 world, and for the amount you spend to get your 125 up to 200ish power I'm pretty sure you could fix whatever is bothering you about your 200. And when you're done with that and decide you want to get all fast and stuff, you have a lot more potential left.

Plus by the time your 125 is speedy, you are now sitting on a vibrating temperamental peaky engine that will stress you out around town and definitely change your riding style. It doesn't just get magically faster, it changes all of the power delivery characteristics in the process. This can be fun, or it can be annoying, depends on what you want... but you need to think about it.

If you know all this and still opt for the 125 then that's cool... ride the way you want to. But I didn't even mention resale/value, and that's something you may want to consider as well. How much would it cost you to get another 200 engine?

Just put a mellow cylinder upgrade on it. Either a Polini or Pinasco 177 kit. I've had the Pinasco on with a Sito+ and the bike has ran great for a over a year. I've done 4 hour trips 2 up with zero issues, and ample hill climbing power. Mind you, I have had other unrelated issues, but that's part of owning an older bike

yikes! don't part it out!

A low milage bike is a beautiful thing and even in stock for a P125 isn't bad in SF. Just bolting on a kit, a 24/24 carb and a Sito + will make it scream. You'll be wiping our clutches in no time. For highway driving the gearing will be painfully low. For the Rage 24 raffle bike, we built up a P125 motor with a polini kit, ported cases, a 24/24 carb and Sito + pipe, but the best mod we did was P200 gearing and clutch. Super fun to ride and highway capable.

OR......

do the motor swap. Put the P200 in the cleaner body and show it off everyday. Then kit the shit out of that p125 and make it into a cutdown/chopper. You're not going to ride it as much. It'll be a great second bike to have at a rally.
