So I bought the on sale lx rack fromscooter works and it won't mount properly!

The angle that the mounting bracket is welded on, leaves about 1/8" gap between it and the holes because the bar on going across the bottom is hitting the scooter body and the bar going parallel the "oh shit"bar is flush up against.

WIll I have to grind a part out?!

When I installed my LX rack I had to do some manual manipulation to get it to line up. Can you post a pic of the problem spot?

I don't have a pic (was doing it late last night in the darkish garage)

I did have a thought that I could probably just put some extra washers in there to act as a bump up.

RIght now it won't tighten all the way and the rack remains loose (i.e. movable) at the bottom bracket.

I think if I jut get an extra 3 or 4 washers in there it will build up the space and act as reinforcement. I'm not planning on putting any more weight on it than a 2 person tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag for local camping.

if the washers do not work I"ll take/post pics

If I recall correctly, I had a similar problem with the bottom bracket lining up. Maybe not as far off as you. I believe that once I was able get the bolts started, I was able to bend the mount just enough to get it flush. Once you attach with the washer, maybe it would bend a little and you can retry with less washers each time.

Is this the front rack and is it a Cuppini? If so, I had the same problem. I went to the hardware store and got a longer threaded bolt and a locking nut, along with several spacing washers. It worked just fine but I never felt confident putting a whole lot of weight on it. AND, is the spring on yours super strong? I never could find a way to lock that sucker in the open position. If I just put my small roll bag on it, the spring was so strong that it would squish the bag. In addition, the front Cuppini rack does not fit an LXV without interference so I can't use it on my new scoot anyway. It's just collecting dust in the garage...and those are my gripes about that rack

No its a rear rack from scooterworks it was their deal of the day...its close enough to fitting...just not where it should be...I think with washers/force I can slowly bend it into position like suggested.

Well if you need a front rack, let me know because I have one It was only used for a month before we sold the LX and got the LXV. It's shiny and pretty....you know you want it

sorry not interested.

I went years without a rack the only reason I bought it was I've been doing a bit of camping this summer and trying to pack beer PLUS camping gear all on the seat wasn't fun to ride for an hour.

The rear rack is just big enough for the camping gear and the beer sits on the seat with me Clown emoticon

put it on the for sale section...

Actually there is some advantage to a front rack as well as a rear rack if you really intend to load up your scoot for camping or other larger loads. Scooters really don't like to have a lot of weight back there at the back wheel. Transfers weight distribution away from the front tire. It's better to spread the load out if possible.

My load is going to be

1. my fat ass (normally on scooter anyways)
2. a 2 man tent (weight is aprox 5lbs)
3. 1 sleeping pad (weight is aprox 2.5 lbs)
4. 1 sleeping bag (weight is aprox 2.5 lbs)
5. 1 case of beer on seat with me (working as a passanger weight 15lbs? I have no idea.)

so unless I'm distributing the weight of the beer amongst front and rear rack and putting the camping gear on the seat....its weight is better distributed on the seat I think? No?

A case is probably more like 25 lbs. 16 oz weights about a pound, you're probably bringing 12oz bottles plus the weight of the glass or aluminum. I think the back rack would do.

You may want to look into a cooler which has the hood for tie downs. You could put that on the back seat and bungee the cooler to the grab rails and rack for stability.
