I need to replace my rear tire but I can't get the wheel off. The spindle nut is stuck. Any suggestions?

Aloha and welcome to the forum. Mine was stuck really bad on the LX. Spray some WD40 or other stuff on the nut this will soak in and hopefully make it easier. If you still can't get it off break out the air compressor. Br careful not to strip it. Good luck

I will need tires soon too. Do you have to take off the spildle nut to remove the rear tire? I thought you just had to take off the muffler and the lug nuts.

There are no lug nuts on the rear wheel of an ET4. If you are talking about your GTS250ie, then I believe there are lug nuts.

To the OP: As Judy suggested, try spraying the area around the nut with a penetrating oil. That might help break things loose. Personally, I go straight to the air impact wrench for removing the spindle nut. Makes it a super simple job.

The nut on the rear tire is going to take some work to get off if you don't have an impact wrench.

I don't, so I bought a breaker bar at Sears to do the job. It's worth the price, a lot less expensive than an impact wrench, because you're going to be faced with removing that wheel again sooner or later anyway.

So see if you can buy or borrow one...the job will go much easier.

You'll need a clutch holding tool or a buddy to hold the rear brake lever to keep the wheel from spinning...you probably already know that by now.

That's why I go directly to the impact wrench. No need to keep the wheel from spinning. The impact wrench will remove the nut and will just barley turn the wheel.

If you don't have an impact wrench or a buddy to hold your brake lever, use a bungie cord and wrap it tightly around the rear brake lever. That will do the trick nicely.

MENHIR i'd go directly to the impact wrench. Dan tried to get mine off but couldn't so i sprayed it, then we bent Jim's breaker bar trying to get it off. My friends impact wrench didn't work so we had to use the bar but i would definitely go the impact route. Granted i live on an island where things corrode and rust but it's not easy to get them off.

I considered using wd40 but I've held off on that. Will it cause any problem when I put the wheel back on?

DEREK no. I used the straw attachment to put some in around the nut, not a lot but enough to soak in and clear the corrosion. Even then we had problems but like i aid i live on an island and the salt spray out by me is brutal ( keep the LX in a shed when not in use also). Be careful you don't strip it. Good luck
