So since May I've changed four clutch cables on my friend's Stella. They keep breaking and I have no idea why. Always at different places, one mid cable, one between the adjuster and the swing are one up near the top and one was just a bad cable.....the nipple in the lever popped right off. We've tried two different brands from 2 different shops.

Any ideas? I'm tired of (but getting really quick at) changing clutch cables.

i don't know much about Stella stuff but the quick in easy thing would to be change the outer out by pulling a new one. also when installing the new inner grease the whole thing up first. You might also want to make sure its not getting cut on the cable stop point in the handle bar?

Changed the inner, using more lube than a Nevada brothel, will file the swing arm hole. Didn't think to check where it goes into the cable stop up top, good suggestion.

Common sense tells me that if the cable sheath (outer housing) hasn't been changed then that's the culprit. Sharp edges or a kink is abrading against the cable...no amount of lube or superior quality cable will remedy this.

IMHO you should change BOTH and see if that solves it. No point in installing a new outer with a used and possibly damaged inner. Good luck!

Hey Snapshot I also went to super scoot if it is the Scooterville one . Rode on the back of Greg Clauss scoot . By far the best rally ever in the U.S. . If you were at the same one you know what I mean .

Have you opened up the headset or just pulled an inner cable through without a peek inside? You likely will find a kink in the outer cable at the apex of its turn into the tube.

Bingo....that's it. Little bulge in the cable right at the apex in the bend. Will replace the outer when I get a chance.....next week is hectic

is there really any point in just changing the inner if your doing it at home.... you might aswell do the lot as it snapped for some reason and knackered outter is usually the culprit
