I'm coming up on my next oil change and have decided to do it myself. There is no place local to buy the recommended oil, is there any reason I shouldn't substitute an off the self synthetic like Mobil1?

You can find the Shell Rotella 5w40 full synthetic at Walmart for around $21 a gallon. It's very good oil at a very good price.

I know a bunch of us use Syntec Castrol 5W40 from Autozone. 5W40 isn't the easiest grade of oil to find at the average auto parts store so the Castrol gets my vote and is what I use in our 3 bikes.

Rotella T6 gets my vote, for easily available oils.
