I need to remedy and issue I'm having with my Rally 180--the Rally has a bad engine seal, which will get repaired in it's own time, but for now, it's rear brake has filled with oil and I want to clean it out. Will something like carb cleaner do the trick? Or should I use a degreaser then something to dry it out? Oddly, my front brakes suddenly seem weak--my guess is that since I'm overcompensating, they are filled with brake dust, so whatever I use to clean the back I'll also apply to the front. Or maybe I'll just rinse dust from the front. One final note: The brakes were installed by me about 5 or 6 years ago, but I really don't ride enough for them to be worn.

just use brake cleaner. Since you have to pull the drum in order to clean the brakes, you might as well replace the seal as it can be installed from the outside.

I tend to destroy anything that might need heat or force. You should see the havoc I wreaked trying to replace a cartridge in my Moen faucet (I had to burn out the plastic retainer nut)...then again, despite much marring, I seem to have salvaged the main parts. I have the seal, it is a matter of prying out the old one and gently tapping in the new one?
