fabio,
Although not feasible (unless your a genius of sorts) you could technically add a body shell to your scoot much like the Velomobile bikes have. This mod would increase your aerodynamics greatly and increase your gas mileage a bunch. Imagine going another 10 mph faster and doubling your gas mileage with reduced air resistance. http://www.velomobiel.nl/allert/Recumbent%20motorbike.htm Ok I'm dreaming for you,he he

I started reading this thread years ago! It only had a few pages, I missed so much. Just caught up though and man what a great read and masses of information for ET2 riders who want to get more out of the machine.
Looks like you sold the ET2 though, did you make a thread about selling it or anything. What was the final speed? |

Looks like you sold the ET2 though, did you make a thread about selling it or anything. What was the final speed? 59 was the final speed that i could get out of it without a whole load of further expense.....my challenge was to get it going as a fast as i could without spending too much money "how fast for little cash"... so i stopped there as the returns per £ would be perhaps starting to diminish. Here's the final speed/spend.... 29mph...£260.....ET2 1997 Scooter (non runner - it had been sat for about 8-9 years in someone's garage unused) 37mph................Removed variator washer 39mph...£030.....Malossi 70cc kit (Second-hand Malossi Iron kit) 42mph...£015.....Giannelli Frankenstein exhaust (a damaged Giannelli exhaust that I "rebuilt") 43mph...£018.....Dellorto 17.5 PHVA (needed vacuum pipe connection mod) 55mph................New drive belt/refurbed pulleys 57mph...£010.....Lighter Rollers, bigger Main jet (here is the real trial and error stage!) 57mph...£005.....Stiffer Clutch Springs 59mph...£011.....Flyscreen (designed and built it myself to keep costs down) ------------------------------------------------- ???mph...£349....(Amount spent on "performance" related items £89) The interesting thing is that I sold the scoot and all of the parts that i had left over (original exhaust, carb, piston/cylinder) and realised £580!!! Yay!!! Fabio . |

That sounds great! I'd imagine things like weight reduction and aero drag reduction would be the first steps to super-high fuel efficiency. What else would you do?

I only read the first page of the thread, I saw many replies that I felt were negative, or silly.
I used to race the 50cc puch moped as a kid I had one that would do 75 mph built by a friend I built several, mine did 65mph, and pulled 30mph instantly. I once rode on a highway (35mph zone) and passed cars doing 50mph, I was doing high 60's they gave me funny looks fab, I think you'll regret selling the bike down the line |

Anyway, I was interested in your comments on how fast these could be got to go. I'm not too interested in playing with the traffic with a 30 MPH top speed! Bob |

Hi Marky and Geeza (Two of the nicest guys here on MV !!) Yes they've all gone I'm afraid.... The ET2 went a while ago as you know...I bought a GT125, a PK125, and a Lambretta Cento. The PK125... I spent a year on a "Nut and Bolt" restore but struggled for months to cure an air leak problem, when I finally did I was so fed up with the scoot that even though it was running perfectly now I'd just had enough!! So I sold that one and the Cento that I'd bought back from the grave both in the same week. The Cento sounded amazing running but it was tricky to get some parts for it due to supply problems, again it sat around for months and I got it running eventually and sold it on. The GT125 went just this week, I wasn't using it because I invested the money in two new PTWs, a 1985 Honda Superdream and a 1988 Kawasaki GPZ500, both of which I bought spares and repairs, both of which I manage to get running and running well within a month of owning, both now having full MOT's. They are so much easier to work on with not having the bodywork to navigate, and the spares are easier to locate, they're much less expensive to purchase and fix up, and they're much more reliable. I'm still looking for a cheap scooter for my son who's 16 soon this year though. Fabio . |

Cheers Fabs, its good to see you back, I missed you on here! Having a problem with mine at the minute, just fixed the speedo as that broke, and now I have a problem with my indicators. I have the MOT on Wednesday so need to get it sorted but spent a hour on it yesterday and cant seem to find out whats wrong.
Basically I was turning left into my road and the indicator signal light started flashing really fast as if one of the bulbs had gone. I got home, took the rear left indicator off as that was the one that was not working, put the new bulb in and it was still not working. The front one obviously was going at 100 miles an hour but the back one not at all. As I mover the white bulb holder it started flashing at normal speed. So I screwed it all back together, and it stopped again. I preumed it was one ofthe wires/conmnectors, so gave them a clean put them back together and it seemed ok. On the way to work it stopped again. so for 5 miles I never used my right signal, as I got to work, the right was ok but the left was doing it??? Anyway, 10 hours later on way home, they all worked fine until I turned into the road!! AAARRGGHH anyway... I had another baby whilst you have been off too!! so thats four in my gaff at the minute I have missed ya man, get another Vespa and dont forget about us! |

Geeza Yes - I'll be popping onto the forum from time to time - I'm looking for a cheap Peugeot Speedfight/Yamaha Aerox or similar for my lad - the best advice you can get for modern scooters of any make (mechanically speaking) is here on MV........ if this makes any sense whatsoever.....what I mean is the basic skills that you need for most jobs are explained very well here on MV......and these apply well to most scooters/bikes. parkaboy wrote: what a fantastic thread! i have a 250 but now i wanna go out and buy a project 2t..... infectious enthusiasm love it! The beauty of having a carbed 2T project (partic. if its a low cost one) is that you learn some mechanical skills at the very basic level - there's no coolant to worry about, no over complicated ECU, no injectors, no valves, nothing really apart from the engine itself to concern yourself with. Also, you can acquire the parts very inexpensively, and if you pick the right parts you can make big differences in the dynamics of the scoot and its performance can go from "flacid" to "sprinty" virtually overnight. Fabio . |

A great read. I did my et2 up with a DR EVO 70 kit after reading this and couldn't be happier.
The thing just rips up steep Seattle hills. Its just like the stock power band with more everywhere, so no clutching is needed. As for more top speed I decided that it would be cheaper and easer to just change the secondary gears to a 16/47 combination. 28% increase. The gears are like $70. Chamfer the ports, particularly the exhaust port. Increase your oiling and increase your jetting. |

I've just bought a 50cc Gilera Ice that needs a bit of TLC, and then I'm going to get it performing better with some of the tricks I used on the ET2 - I think at first look that its basically the same engine but in a frame that's so much lighter Vespa ET2 - 90kg Gilera Ice - 60-70Kg maybe? - Not sure exactly but it feels about half of the weight of the ET2 to my imagination! Its very similar to the one in the picture below....... Fabio ![]() . |
