Love the way it needs a plastic foot stand!

Be sure to cover it in LEDs and add a pumping sound system, then pose with other rudeboys outside the local chippy!

great read
Thanks for this thread, it's been good to read. Created an account just to comment on it.
I've had my ET2 for 4 or 5 years now, but it has been sitting the last couple years. I am thinking I might just make it my next project!

New guy here...
Fabio - I stumbled onto your thread this morning in my quest to research as much as possible about my '03 ET2 50 & what it may be capable of if I choose to mod it in the future. I've only gotten a couple pages into your thread so far but I wanted to say THANK YOU for all your effort, details & pics...they are very much appreciated.

There seem to be some people who look down on/laugh at/don't understand those people who put effort in to push their 50cc to the limits. I do understand the nay-sayers but I don't agree with them. I wanted to add my 2 cents because out of all the explanations given in support of 50cc scootering, I haven't seen anyone mention the underdog factor. Some of the greatest and most memorable stories, movies & events involve the underdog concept & that's part of the reason I love my ET2 50 so much. What was one of the 1st places I took my Vespa to? Mount Charleston, Nevada...8,600 feet up. I still got laughed at by some people when I got to the top but nobody was unimpressed.

I have fun & I enjoy doing the 'impossible' sometimes.

Thank you LC, what a lovely and very unexpected post full of very kind comments.

For me it was the fun factor, my first scooter was the ET2 and I learnt so much from working on it.

Since then I've had numerous other scooters and bikes, but none that I have enjoyed as much at the ET2.

I'm just in the process of swapping the components out of a rotten framed ET4 125 into another frame that I've acquired and repaired, I'm hoping that when it's finished that I'll enjoy it as much as my original ET2...

I have an LX50 fully moded, here you have my post.
Vespa Lx50 exhaust

I was wondering, what rear tyre did you buy? As all I found was 110/80 and that's the one I am using right now...
Any other idea to do on my vespa?
Thank you

Hi
What was the final Spec for your et2, I cannot see it.
I have an et2. I want to upgrade it.
I am thinking of a 70 kit. What else will I need.

Advice on the following

1. Carb and jetting.
2. Exhaust
3. Upgear kit/primary gear kit.
4. 70 cc kit.

What sort of top speed would I be looking at. With the above new setup.

Thanks for your advice and information.

Thank you for the reply. I do try. Some people would say I'm very trying .

So can anyone offer Advice on an upgear kit?
Is it worthwhile and how will it affect performance.

Thank you

Hi Fabio, excellent project and thread, thank you a lot for the information sharing.

If you don't mind, I wanted to ask you if the top speed was affected when you tried the stock exhaust with the kit. I read that the acceleration was worse, but what about the top speed?
I will use this vespa to go to work and l need those 5 or 10 extra mph to be safe in the roads I will be riding on, but if I can save the exhaust money it would be great. I'll get the carb and the kit, I already have a bigger tire on the back and a bigger one on the front, which makes the speedometer closer to the real speed (2mph difference from the speed sensing street signs from where I live, before it was 10)
Thanks a lot.

I can't quite recall to be honest...but I remember thinking that with the stock exhaust it definitely had much less pep......... so i'm thinking that it would have struggled to get into the power band to get it up to top speed.

Fabio,
I love the thread. Keep it alive for all us ET2 guys out there. I love how descriptive everyone is after installing the parts and it really gives me an idea of (hopefully) what to expect. I bought my ET2 a couple of weeks ago and the performance bug bit. I picked up the following and they are all scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

- 80 Weber Main Jet
- Leovince SP3 exhaust
- Malossi air filter
- Vespa original variator belt
- NGK BR9ES spark plug

I plan on installing the rollers that (hopefully) come with the exhaust, and depending on what tools my friend has available, I may install the clutch springs while I'm at it. I love this thread and can't wait to see what my 50cc can do. Its weird that the SIP store site makes no mention of the exhaust coming with clutch springs or rollers. I was just assuming it would, after reading other peoples comments, and hopefully those will hold me over in the mean time, until I get a variator kit.

Hi Joe

Thanks for the kind words.

It was a great learning platform for me to start and keep updating this thread, it came to a bit of an end when I sold on the ET2, but I check in here quite often and am very proud of the views that it receives - hopefully it is of great use to others.

I learned a lot... and thoroughly enjoyed it, and with the help of fellow MVers it was very useful as a conduit for information gathering/sharing.

There is also some more information here that may be of use to you, these are articles that I wrote for the MV wiki to try to summarise the information that I had learned.....

Fabio,
I have 2002 ET2 with:
70 cc 2 ring kit
Malossi variator
3.8 gram rollers
Delorto phvb 22mm carb and delorto phbg 19mm carb
Malossi over range kit
Brand new malossi Kevlar belt
But I can not get passed 72kph or 45 mph.
What do you think the problem is?

You need an unrestricted CDI, yours is limited to 10 000RPM. No expansion chamber mate?

You can upgrade your stock exhaust with a semi-expansion chamber like the Leo Vince SP3 and you will see effective gains in top speed and it won't be noisier than the stock one. Or go for the full expansion chamber, Leovince, Tecnigas, with a more "sport" sound, like the Leovince TT, ZX, or Tecnigas Next-R, RS. "bee aware of clearance with sport's exhaust, a riser is needed on the back shock"

Sorry m8 yes I do have Leo Vince sp3 but no expansion chamber like some of the guys make. Heard there's a lot to it.
I have the 6.5g weights not 3.8 like I stated.. I put in the 3.8 yesterday and heard were winding out too much. I have great acceleration right now. But it tops out at 45mph. Do you think I should go 7.1 rollers?

Have you ressentely replaced the transmission belt? You have the Malossi over rang kit, as I recall it has a specific belt, a bit longer than stock.

Have you checked to see if the belt is "climbing" the variator fully?

You can do this by marking the variator with a Permanent Marker or "Sharpie" then taking the scooter up to its top speed.

See the picture.....the belt rubs off the Sharpie ink mark you made and leaves the unused circumference of the variator marked with ink...there should be no sharpie ink left if its climbing the variator correctly.

Another thought is....what contra spring are you using at the moment - is it the standard one or an upgraded one? - if its too strong it might be holding the gearing too low maybe?

So I can confirm the belt is going all the way up and down the variator. I tried 5.5 rollers but it likes the 6.5 a lot better (5.5 and lower winds out the gears) I ordered 7.5 rollers to see if top end goes up. Apparently I have too much upgraded parts. I think I will most likely mix the 6.5 and 7.5 rollers. According to scooterwest the 22mm carb may be too much. Rebuilding my 19mm and going to plug chop on that... Here we go again.. Any thoughts and help appreciated. Thanks guys!

72Km/h is the stock top speed of the thing (50cc cylinder).
Talking about the cylinder, is it assembled with the correct gasket?

Please post a video of the et2 accelerating.
