I am trying to figure out why my Fuel tap only works in the Reserve position.

I took it out and found there are three holes from the top and three holes from the side,
BUT one pair of holes doesn't seem to be connected.

In other words I can see how the air pipe hole connects to the bottom hole; and the reserve hole connects to the reserve entry hole; but the hole I think would be the ON does not seem connected to anything nor does the third hole from the top. In fact you might notice that hole is shiny and unused looking.

Can someone familiar with the engineering tell me if this is correctly built?

I am certain if I drilled the hole further it would connect with the hole coming from the top but that seems a rather odd thing to have to do.

That's what it is supposed to look like.

Don't drill on this.

The hole that appears to go "to nothing" actually loops back. Look on the plate you are leaving out of the picture.

It is probably an assembly issue.

Thanks for the reply.

The plate not in picture seems to connect up to two passages at a time as it rotates ...

1) or just to one passage in the OFF position

2) In ON position it connects the "dead end" hole with the air passage.

3) In RESERVE position it connects the reserve passage to the air passage.

What's the point of the dead end one connecting to the air passage? All it does is allow air to reach that dead end point.

And why is the ON "dead end" passage so super clean on this 10 + year old fuel tap?

Hello

The later taps for PX200 do not have a reserve.

Yeah, that looks like a fuel tap for a scooter with a fuel gauge that doesn't have reserve.

Well that's annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those jerkheads sold me a PX tap for my small frame. Well it's been 10 years so the statute of limitations is long gone.

I'm 100% certain drilling the last 2mm will connect the vestigial holes together and convert it into the original version. This is probably how Vespa reused the casting for the taps for the non reserve variety. They just didn't drill as deep.

Anyone have experience drilling with this alloy?

You know how it is: I'm champing at the bit to put this baby under my drill press.
