There *are* patches and everything...

The only thing I'd wonder would be, where is the Modern Vespa rally?

Oh boy, here we go.

This is not an entirely new thought. It has occurred to me once or twice. My current thinking, though, is that I don't think I have the necessary skills to organize a real rally just yet. Heck, I only went to my first ever rally yesterday.

It's entirely possible that I'll organize an informal ride, though. Not so much on the bar / drinking / music side, and more along the lines of going out and riding through some twisties.

That's as far as I've gotten so far. Feedback is, of course, welcome.

Hey Scooterbobby, thanks for offering! Do you have some kind of deal with a shipper, like Forward Air, for moving scooters around the country? Lots of folks would probably be interested if they knew how easy it is to ship a scooter via Forward Air. The retro scooterists do this all the time. you just stick your scooter in a crate and yourself on an airplane and, viola, you're at a rally!

Getting there (for me) would be a rally unto itself. Sounds kinda fun, actually.

It sure wouldn't be a bad idea for ModernVespa types to have a little private shindig while at amerivespa. But do we really want to have all ralleys in one? I like going to more then 1 ralley a year.

Yeah, I wanted to make it to The Big Wet One, but I still get kinda saddle sore from surgery a month ago, so I haven't been riding much other than to work and back. But give me a few months and I'd be in for meeting up with you guys for some rides. Just as a reference, I live about a mile from NapaCoach.

Dag, I need to go out and visit you guys. I am very interested in riding the GT in that direction - much more polite than say, heading towards Alemeda or something.... roads are in better condition and are less crowded.

With enough notice and or planning I'm sure we could get the Napa Club and the Sonoma County Club to give you a warm welcome and a nice tour of our local roads. Earache on this forum runs the Sonoma County website here: http://socoscoot.com and they have a good group of folks that ride modern bikes. Plus Earache's Mojito 150 is awesome! And you are always welcome at the Napa website at: http://www.nvsc.net/

That would be about half the distance for me to get to, versus going to San Francisco.

You guys have fun on the west coast...

IF there is something planned, do yourself a favor and make certain you are not in conflict with the dates of other regional scooter rallies, or you run the risk of making a bad name for yourselves. We are having fun with a couple of new clubs on the east coast right now.

If we do a east and west coast rally for this list, and invite others that'd be cool. or plan something that moves around the country, kinda like amerivespa, but, to try to plan something in conjunction with Amerivespa, I fear that you would be doing exactly what you feel the vintage riders do to you. Being sort of elitist, I understand that is not the intention. but, I fear that would be the affect.

Why not attend your local rallies before you go all out and plan one of your own?

On the east coast and midwest, (driving less than 12 hours) if you only went to everyother one you could attend 10 rallies.

My old rule of thumb was, if its less than 15 hours by truck, I'm there.

something to think about.

I'm pretty much with Larry on this one. I don't want you all to get too carried away with possibilities, when the reality is that if we do something, it will either be small and informal or in partnership with some existing event.

Sorry, not trying to be a downer, I just want to set people's expectations appropriately.

You realize, Bobby, that I'm coming down for Endless Summer

I do agree with Larry/Jess, though - it's probably best if MV starts off affiliating itself with a rally, for instance (say, Endless Summer heheh) vs jumping into making a rally on its own.

I like the idea of doing a Modern Vespa event at an already established rally. Less work for Jess! Then later we can think about our own rally.

AmeriVespa will be a very big rally here in Denver in July. It's being combined with the Lammy Jammy Rally was well. We are going to have a ton of scooterists here the last weekend in July. If many of you are already planning on coming, we could organize a Modern Vespa event. Some ideas could be

1. Meet and greet cocktail hour.
2. A ride.
3. Other?

A couple of us on this board live in Denver and could organize something and pull it together locally. It would be nice to put some faces behind our board names and all.

It would be nice to have an event for modern scooters as most of the rally will center around the vintage ones.

Chime in with feedback please. Thanks!

Also chime in if you plan to be in Denver in July for AmeriVespa.

I'll be there, however, the VCOA is really trying to include the modern bikes in on the fun as well.

Its not just a vintage rally...what i'm sayin is: the vinatge crowd is fun as well, no need to be exclusive at all!

Thinking about doing it. Mrs. Mongoose wouldn't want to ride to Denver though. Fortunately, I've got a trailer that could hold a few scoots (if anyone in SE Wisconsin/NE Illinois would like transport).

BTW, good to see you back on the board, Nukie.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I did not mean to imply that modern scooters would be excluded or looked down upon at AmeriVespa. All scooters I am sure are welcome. The awards they hand out, however, are about 90% for vintage bikes and only 10% for modern scoots based upon what I saw on their website from the last rally.

The main reason for my post was to say: Let's pull together an event at AmeriVespa to get all the people who are on the ModernVespa board together so we can all meet each other.

The reason for that is modern vespas have only been around for 10 years.

If it was 50/50 everyone with a modern bike would go home with a trophy. Whilst good for morale, a bit of crap I think. Also, how hard is it to have a really nice original 2005 ET4? I have an ET and so do a lot of vintage riders. and yes, in ten years there may be an ET that wins best original, but until they have been around long enough that folks are starting to restore them, I think a couple of categories for modern bikes is enough.

you want to win in a cross over category win best custom. do some cool shit to your et4 or gt... have a crazy paint job put on it. get a bunch of stuff chromed, make some custom stuff for it.

My et:

black ET4, no front fender, 190 kit, Ty-force pipe. Iron cross custom mirrors, corbin gunfighter Iron Cross saddle, clear turn signals, smoke tail lamp with rotating LED bulb, Conti Zippy 1s, satin red wheels, chrome rear fairings...

Its almost as custom as i can get without cutting it up.

try it its fun!
