The Governator busted his lip is all and the article says he was wearing a helmet, but my guess is it wasn't full face. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/09/schwarzenegger.crash.ap/index.html

As if you needed another reason to wear a full face helmet.

I was more than a little alarmed, when I saw your post title. After reading the article, I'm relieved. Thank goodness.

Yeah sorry to alarm you. I wasn't trying to make more of it than was there so I should have been more careful with my headline. I was interested in pointing out the benefits of a full face helmet and this seemed like a pretty high profile example.

Good point! Maybe Arnold should offer to do community service for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation-- Or get an endorsement from Shoei...

This is Arnold's second motorcycle accident. Both times he ran into someone. The first time he rear-ended a car that had stopped in front of him. These may well have been situations that could've been anticipated and resolved with the right approach to skills and safety.

I wonder if he shouldn't take the MSF BRC or ERC to freshen up his skills. Or maybe he could take some time out to read Proficient Motorcycling. I'd hate for people to look at a high-profile rider like him and say "see how dangerous motorcycles (scooters) are"

I heard on the news this morning that the Arnold said the other driver was looking right at him but pulled out in front of him as if though he wasnt there.

I can believe that. I bet it's happened to most of us.

One of the first things I read about before getting my scooter was that people in cars will often just not see a rider. This saved my butt on the first long trip I ever took on my scooter: I was riding down a rural road with open fields on all sides and a side road on my right with a SUV waiting. The driver was looking right at me and pulled out in front of me anyway. I remembered the lesson as I approached and was ready enough to avoid an accident.

It's happened on several occassions since.

It happened again two days ago...The lady (and passenger, too) was coming to one of those creeping almost-stops before entering the main road from my right. I intuitively got ready and started slowing down. She was looking right at me. As she pulled out right in front of me her eyes never moved. She never really saw me at all.

Bright red riding jacket, silver helmet, high beams, and all.

Always good advice: Ride like you are invisible.

An article in today's Sac Bee says that Arnold does not even have a motorcycle license. Kind of funny...

Interesting about the no license thing. BTW, anyone know if he was wearing a full face helmet. I bet not, but am very curious considering his injury. I would think a full face would have saved his lip.

You would think a journalist would ask that question since it is an obvious one, but apparently the California journos don't know motorcycling.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in motorcycle accident - Not a bad one
Funny that he doesn't have a license when his picture is the first thing you see when you walk into the DMV.

Being in an accident while having no valid drivers license. I wonder, if you're not the governor, that would be pretty serious. Not only a fine, but what about damage, to the bike and the car...?

Maybe he'll have to sell one of his Hummers...

Arnold doesn't have a motorcycle endorsement on his license? I'm surprised. The media is going to have a field-day with that. It just underscores that Arnold is only human. He's not really a cyborg.
Arnold looks a little like Angelina Jolie with the swollen lip.

Saw one article that said it was not required because the bike he was on had a sidecar. http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060109/APN/601090532 Read down to section about side cars and class C. I really did not realize this, Beale.

The Governator asserts that getting a legal motorcycle endorsement is something he just somehow didn't get around to after immigrating to the US in the 1960's... Hmmmm.....

I wonder if Jay Leno has a motorcycle endorsement. Or Stallone. And there's been alot of photos of Tom Cruise on a motorcycle lately. Some young go-getter investigative reporter could probably blow the lid off this scandal, 8) once again exposing the dark underbelly of the Hollywood elite.

Or not.

I think Tom Cruise is that guy who hangs around with the people, who know of people, that came from another planet. Jay's cool. I know several ordinary folk who rode with Jay on occasion. Sly's okay in my book too.

You still need a license, but for some reason a simple automobile license is sufficient. Seems silly to me.

I'm in the process of picking an MSF course, and from the way I read the info from the various training centers, in Wisconsin you can get sidecar/trike certification, but it does not allow for two-wheel operation.

4 wheels instead of 2? And, yes, you're right; it really doesn't make sense...

[Previous post edited to remove reference to the Governor's future political prospects.] Disclaimer >> No heavy politics intended-- mostly lots of tongue-in-cheek about his little vehicular misdemeanor---

With this thread in progress, I couldn't help but think of Arnie's lip when I heard his name mentioned on the radio in another context-- That's all.

Peace!
