Hi ezc,
yeah exactly, where are you thinking of mounting? You can't go much further than the forward-most hole in a UFP/XT because you'll interfere with the front wheel (definitely something to think about for owners of UFP/LTs who want a bit more extension, though...but just buying a /XT is a lot cheaper!). Downwards? Maybe. Upwards? Most definitely, but probably more an option for the UPP passenger brackets or mjm50cal's side passenger bracket. Mike, what do you think? |

Today I received both the brackets and the nickle/chrome flat pegs. I put them on in little time, as I had read numerous posts and even saw a video. I then took a ride on the 500 for at least an hour, which entailed getting on the freeway. And all I can say is . . . WOW! These brackets/pegs really make riding the piaggo a much more enjoyable bike, as there is also no tension in my lower body from trying to maintain myself at a certain position. Now I will be off to Ojai, Ca. sometime next week to Bill Mayer Saddle to get my custom-fit seat.

I want to give a shout out to rookie member Chefboyrg for being such a good sport when I totally screwed up what day he was supposed to come to pick up his brackets and wasn't even at home when he arrived. The Chef was kind enough to pick me up from my nearby walk and gave me a ride on the back of his awesome Leo Vince-equipped /500 to my girlfriend's house, where my MP3 and tools were.
We then spent some time carving around the streets of Wayne. Perfect weather and a lot more fun than being at work in the middle of the day. Thanks Chef! |

EZ, what kind of clearance do you have between that and the tire when you turn the handlebar all the way to the stop? Would there still be sufficient clearance if mounted on the most forward hole of an /XT?
How wide are they at the widest point? To follow up on a point Dirt made, they might be a unique item to hang off the UPP passenger brackets. I may have to add that to the footpeg FAQ, really out-of-the-box thinking! |

Love the look of those floor-boards.
What is the actual width and length of them please? What brand are they and where do they come from? Is the fitting into the bracket any different to the normal pegs? Thanks. |

But in all fairness ez, surely they touch ground well before a regular peg would., since their lowest point (at least as you have them mounted) is below the same distance straight out from the mounting hole. That is a consideration for people who aggressively bank their bikes. I do see how their angled underneath surface makes them less likely to catch on something, which is the main reason I recommend setting pegs to maximum the tendency to flip up.

Just wanted to say that the UFP/XT brackets is without a doubt the best Mod I added to my MP3. The Madstad is a close second.
I'm trying to figure out what to do with all that space I have where my feet used to go. I use the foot pegs about 99% of the time. Thanks for making these brackets available. |

Yep I agree with Rbertoni. I recently took the UFP's off of my 250 to put diamond plate running boards on and moved the UFP's to the 500. Since then I have ridden the 250 without and I really think that if I didn't have pegs I would ride a lot less. So cramped. Weird that I bought it without pegs in the first place.

Re: MP3 Footpeg Brackets - new for 2011!
rjeffb wrote: Are you feeling cramped on your MP3? I am offering the "Ultimate Footpeg Project" brackets, model UFP/XT, which put your feet lower, wider, and further forward than the stock Piaggio MP3 floorboard. This includes shipping, rubber bumper to protect your scooter's bodywork, and the longer screws needed. These are plug-n-play for a Fuoco 500 or MP3/500, or an MP3/250-300-400 that has had a diamondplate floorboard installed. Simply remove the two front screws from the floorboard, place the bracket over the floorboard, and use the included longer screws to reattach. They will also fit an unmodified /250-300-400 with a minor alteration described below, which will add a couple of minutes to installation. MP3/LT (European) owners may need to pull up the bottom of the rubber boot underneath the brake pedal, but apparently that's a no-brainer. These brackets are solid Type 304 Stainless Steel, bead-blasted to a non-slip satin finish, and pre-drilled to mate with a footpeg accepting a 3/8" diameter screw. Pegs are not included for liability reasons; in normal use any reasonably sized pegs should not contact ground in a turn, but it is your responsibility to ensure that your pegs are in the upright position whenever performing aggressive manuvers. The MP3 can theoretically be pushed to extreme banks at high speed, and such manuvers should NOT be attempted with these brackets attached, with or without pegs. There are a huge variety of pegs available ranging from under $10 to over $100 a pair; see FAQ #4 below. The footpegs may be mounted at three different distances, which should be suitable for anyone from 5'4" (or less - see my post Coming Up Short below) to 6'4" or more. The brackets include a pre-installed integral rubber bumper to protect your scooter's bodywork. Thanks http://modernvespa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=954297&highlight=diminishing#954297 There are a bunch of reviews of UFPs by tall riders scattered around this forum, but perhaps the technical answer might better answer your question. Note that that post was about one of the older, smaller UFPs; the current model is 3/4" longer (= rider's inseam) so where the old post says "6 foot," substitute "6 foot 1.5 inches." |

Thanks for a quick reply. According to your post "The UFP is optimal for someone up to about 6'. Beyond that, it is not "optimal" but it is still going to be better than nothing. Once you pass about 6'4 to 6'6, the change in the angle of your knee resulting from the UFP approaches diminishing returns".... so me being 6'4 the UFP will make no real diiference
![]() Surely if I got the seat reshaped (or something) and the UFP it would give me more room? |

Well, member RamblerDan (one of the original inventors of MP3 footpegs) overcame this problem by also flattening out his seat so he can simply sit further back. You must appreciate that this means getting rid of the pillon ledge, and that means fundamentally changing the shape of the pan sitting underneath the the seat. Since a /500 (at least as delivered stock) has no storage room other than under the seat, that has implications such as no longer accomodating a helmet.
Remember, the UFP/XT is .75" longer than the UFP/LT, so you need to revise all my statements up by an inch and a half: "once you pass about 6'5.5" to 6'7.5"..." but I do get your point: you are getting close to where even an UFP/XT may not make a big enough difference. (Although speaking personally, anything is better than the stock seat plus the stock floorboard.) There is one other solution, but I am hesitant to recommend it. Elsewhere in this forum have been posts about offset footpegs; basically they are pegs with 2" or 4" extension arms. When mounted to a UFP, they will definitely get your legs out where you want them to be. BUT. It's not so straightforward (the whole point of the UFP is a no-muss, no-brainer, almost no-effort improvement). Will the pegs or your feet interfere with the front wheels? Probably not but nobody has ever tried it. Will the extension apply so much torque (= force x distance) on the UFP mounting hole that they won't stay in one position (member Turbojav and I eventually got his "stirrup" pegs, which have a similar potential issue, to stay put by adding special Belleville washers...so it's surmountable, but messy). And they aren't 3/8" so you have to drill out the UFP hole. And they're really really expensive. Ordinarilly my recommendation would be to just try a set. But while several fellow Brits have them, I don't know of any of them up by you, mostly London area. Perhaps my idea mentioned in the referenced thread about mocking up the position with a mop handle to see if they would provide enough relief to be worthwhile? Hey UFP owners - who's our tallest rider with a /500? Do they have /LTs or /XTs? |

Natty wrote: Thanks for a quick reply. According to your post "The UFP is optimal for someone up to about 6'. Beyond that, it is not "optimal" but it is still going to be better than nothing. Once you pass about 6'4 to 6'6, the change in the angle of your knee resulting from the UFP approaches diminishing returns".... so me being 6'4 the UFP will make no real diiference ![]() Surely if I got the seat reshaped (or something) and the UFP it would give me more room? |
