Sammy is back at home, half bald, chomping through anything that is put in front of him. Yay!
I met Charles this morning in Scootech, hope you get the GTS sorted! EDIT from Charles's other thread: charlesm wrote: Well, Lawrence, the mechanic was involved in an accident on his way back from doing an MOT as I arrived this morning (having just bumped into Doug at the shop - Doug, Lawrence appeared about 2 mins after you left). The car involved pulled out to turn right as Lawrence was overtaking (at some speed by the looks of the damage to the car). Anyway, Lawrence was a lucky man as he had no damage to himself despite coming off the bike with nothing other than a short sleeve shirt and helmet on. The car involved turned up at the shop to exchange details and try to explain that it was the bike/Lawrence's fault. The man waiting to pick up his bike from the MOT was obviously inconvenienced but took it well and I had to take a back seat and leave my bike there until he is well enough to think straight and have a look at it. All in all a frustrating morning, but hey ho. Charles. |

it sounds like Sammy weighed up the pros and cons of being a fussy eater, and decided that his new look isn't worth it. so pleased to hear he's back to normal (in everything but appearance).
we saw lawrence just yesterday - i'm glad he's okay. given the size of him it's not hard to imagine that he'd do substantial damage to a car, no matter what speed he hits it at. next door has been renovating since .... hmm, i'm having to think back through the mists of time ... I believe they started around December. They're still going at it, only now they've moved all the sawing/planing/grinding and other activities requiring noisy power tools, into the back garden, for me to listen to all day, all week how they can have a 3 man crew on site five days a week and still be renovating a 3-bedroom flat after 7 months, is beyond me. |

Maybe he had a ch,ch,ch,ch change of colour ?
I'm glad Lawence is alright although it sounds like he took a big hit today. I havn't got the heart to tell him that my handlebars are pissed after he did such a fine job of replacing the fork leg and change the fuel pump. Some of the bubble rap was still attached to the mudguard when we arrived to collect it so it's not a myth. He is such a lovely man to have work on your scooter. Alice I think you should replace your avatar with that picture. Foxy Bowie ? Good to know that Sammy is home and back to normal. Yay ! I've finished The Forever War. The last 1/4 of it was pretty good but the rest felt a bit cut and shut. 6 out of 10. Bill X |

6/10 for The Forever War? I would give it an 8. My wife, however, is 2/3 through and is looking at me funny for recommending it. I guess it doesn't take much to impress me.

My problem with reading Iain Banks is that his stuff is so dynamic and complex I find it hard to adjust to other authors writing styles because they feel pedestrian in comparison so I soon give up if it doesn't melt my head.
It's also very funny in places which a lot of Sci Fi isn't. Ding. |

Is anyone else watching the ever expanding phone hacking scandal with increased horror at the depths these journalists, editors and private investigators have sunk to while trying to pursue the elusive"exculsive" ?
Could this be the initial stages of the fragmentation of the Murdock Empire or at least the selling off of his newspaper interests in an attempt to dissociate himself from the whole nasty sequence of events ? Bill X |

Yes, I've been reading some of the coverage of the Murdoch business. Wish I could say I was surprised, but not really. While I'm sure they hide behind the "People's right to know", there is no question in my mind that it is all for selling newspapers and corporate profits. Greed and lust for power create interesting situations. But then, all these violations of peoples' privacy and bribes were done to pander to the general public's prurient interests. I wouldn't shed a tear or breathe a sigh if this brought the News Corp and Mr Murdoch to total ruin. |

Unusual for this to get to page three. Nasty weather huh?
I spent the day putting the cylinder kit on the LX. The engine is on my dining room table ready to go in with the Forcemaster 2 CDI. Hopefully it will work this time! Need to do an oil change. It will be interesting to see how the performance increases, if it does. I've commuted on the little beast all week, the bitubo on the front has made a huge difference and it's quite happy to sit at an indicated 65mph on the A12.. |

I look forward to the 'improvement' reports.
I'm now just twiddling my thumbs, VERY impatient to get on the plane to take me where I want. 30-odd hours to go. Tick-tock. Some thoughts on a separated domiciled relationship... The gaps are good, very good for doing your own stuff at your own pace. They utterly suck for your peace of mind when looking forward to when you might be close together. Deranged. |

Well, K's GTS had a busy weekend.
Saturday I got up at 5AM and set off for the air show at RAF Fairford. A very wet morning gave way to a gorgeous afternoon complete with Vulcan, Spitfire and Red Arrows. Sunday I was marshalling for the Sunbeam MCC's 'Garden of England' run, starting and finishing at Headcorn Aerodrome. Some lovely little roads which I will have to steal for an MV ride. Spent much of my day standing at a junction, in a hi-viz, getting rained on, but the old boys (and several girls) had a whale of a time and it was a pleasure to see the bikes. For my assistance, I received a sort of horse brass thing which I'll have to mount somewhere somehow. (The GTS exhaust seems a bit loud suddenly, but I'm sure it's just my imagination. It couldn't possibly be that every bike that enters my possession immediately starts falling to pieces. Right?) ![]() |

alice, the exhaust killer. no, i'm sure it's your imagination.
a rather lazy weekend during which the scooter remained under cover in the front garden. sunday consisted of blackberry-gathering on the marshes in the morning, food prep in the afternoon, and a lovely evening bbq-ing under the gazebo with neighbours. |

I just heard from a friend in Maine that the blackberries are almost ready there too which makes them very early. Should be just in time for my wife's trip in 2 weeks...she will bring them back to Florida in buckets!

I have a spare exhaust collar at home, under the Hornet's seat - so if you can nurse the GTS just for the last few days you can just leave it as it is.

Alice, if it is noisy, get it over to me and I'll sort the collar out. I'd hate it to melt a brake line or loom. A good way to check it is to start it and let it idle and put a cloth over the outlet. If you hear a hiss from the join area, then it's the gasket.
On another note, I have taken leave of my senses and splashed out on the house. I left a decorator sanding the front window sill and came home to find the whole front undercoated. Wow. Nice and white, no peeling paint. Also got a quote for double glazing at the back from two companies which I'm going to accept, so hopefully no more chills this winter.... This winter the inside... Next year, the roof! |

And there's me planning on getting my central heating boiler replaced in September as the first step to a complete 'modernisation'. Gosh.
I had to edit this to add 'central heating' to avoid the usual deliberate Skoker misunderstandings. |

We're rebuilding our front porch - taking it down to nothing and redoing the whole thing. Also, we are painting many rooms and refinishing ceilings on our quaint 1926 house. By "we" I mean a large group of extremely handy types that we called to come over and do these things!
