OK gang, I have a headlamp question. I can sort this out with a few hours of wrenching, but if anyone has thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
I rebuilt my P200e, and it now has a new stator (the old had crunchy wiring), and a new flywheel (I added electric start). During the rebuild, I tore EVERYTHING out of the headset, and replaced all wiring.
Before the restoration, I was quite happy with the headlight brightness. Since upgrading, it's considerably worse. Here are the symptoms:
- The headlight is VERY dim unless I rev the engine. With the engine revved up, it's pretty bright.
- At night, it seems like the "low beam" is aimed high, and the "high beam" is aimed low, even though high beam is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter.
I'm almost inclined to think I have the high and low wires reversed on the bulb fixture (I did replace all that wiring with my new wiring harness). I'm also wondering if perhaps my flywheel magnets are weaker on the new flywheel than the old, causing it to generate less power.
I suppose it also could be something with the stator, but it seems like the stator would either WORK, or NOT WORK, and not be subject to RPMs as much.
There are also aim adjustors on the headlight fixture. I didn't move those screws when I did the rebuild, but I suppose things could be sitting differently and causing aim issues.
So, does anyone have any inspirational thoughts before I start tearing things apart?
Mike
